I totally agree with a proper wash, Decon with iron X, clay and polish.. wipe down with panel wipe or IPA to remove all the polishing oils and apply your coating.
The results will be absolutely spectacular.

Clay usually comes in it's own storage container. The packaging doubles as storage.
If you tossed it already, then zip lock sandwich bags or storage bags work beautifully.
