I have a new truck going to be coating it with opti gloss coat.
The paint looks flawless should I polish it or not. I was thinking yes just to make sure. But with what.
This what I have megs205, menzena 3500. Lake country Hybrid Black pad and white, also lake country black mircofiber polish pad.
I have a flex 3401.

Will to look at different polish's and polishing pads.

Thats why my title is that way, Is yes i can but Why

Polish it makes a world of a difference and its the right way to maximize the benefit for the coating to lay on flawless paint.

Carpro gloss pad with essence may need a microfiber for areas that need more bite. How do you know the paint is flawless.Did you wash Ironx then dried and inspected with a swirl finder light?.

Also, any new vehicle that has traveled from the factory to the dealer has been subjected to rail dust (if shipped by train) and at the very least road grime. All of this on completely unprotected paint.

I would do a full correction. (Decontaminate, polish on a new truck). Especially before a coating.

I'll toss Hyper polish into the mix along with optimum paint prep to prep the paint for gloss coat.

You should absolutely hit it with a light polish/prep polish. I do a lot of new car prep packages and yes, you will see a difference. Besidse, you do want to ensure a good bond of the coating to a completely clean and polished surface.

I totally agree with a proper wash, Decon with iron X, clay and polish.. wipe down with panel wipe or IPA to remove all the polishing oils and apply your coating.

The results will be absolutely spectacular.

Also not that automobiles are contaminated during transport by train, carrier trucks and merely from sitting on the lot before you purchase them.

If you really want to know the true condition of your paint, do the baggie test.

( Something I learned from The Detail Guru himself, Mike Phillips! )

Wash and dry your truck.. Put a plastic sandwich bag on your hand and massage it across the paint, chrome and glass.

I promise it will absolutely astound you as to the level of contamination in your paint..

Proceed with Decon procedures as mentioned and be amazed!!

Enjoy your new Truck!

I asked this same question recently as I have a new truck. Pretty much everyone agreed polish but the one take away Mike said was to us a non abrasive polish. Your not correcting the paint really just getting anything on there off so you can protect it.

I used Pinnacle Black Label Surface Cleansing polish I found it easy to use and rub on and rub off. I did mine with old fashioned elbow grease. Yeah it took a while.

Basically what I did was, 2 bucket wash, clay bar, polish, then applied my sealant.

This is how it turned out. The Front or top of the picture looks hazy as I took this while I was removing the sealant.

I must say I am extremely pleased with the results.
