I'm from Guadalajara Mexico, and i can tell you that here, there are a lots of detailers ( DIY, small And mobile, And so on), before i get into detail, my i have the same opinon as you, i think you need to seek, as Aaryn said, in facebook, internet, i have seen lot of videos about detaling made...
