I plan to show this car and to also go through your procedure for recovering old single stage white paint. I did it on another 1988 mustang I have and it worked great. But curious what you like for wax or if you have a suggestion other than wax.
So should I be using vital and protection cream? If I have already used protection cream, can I still use the vital or will I need to clean the leather again to remove the protection cream?
Thanks for the all the input. I have not used these products before, so I wasn't sure what to expect.
It is a 1986 Mustang SVO, so 28 years old. I just used the protection cream. What does the Vital do? I wish I had taken some before pictures. The difference was dramatic. The leather is shiny everywhere and as far as I remember it has been since it was new. I will try to get some pictures.
The leather seats in my car were discolored and after reading numerous posts, it looked like Leather Master's cleaner was the way to go. While it did a great job cleaning the leather, it seems like it dried it out. I have used the Leather Master's Protection Cream. But it is like the leather...
I used the DP interior cleaner on the dash again and paid close attention. I definitely think I am removing oxidized paint. So at some point I am going to have to repaint it. Which means I have to track down the odd grey they used.
I will also see what is said on the SVO forum and let you...
Thank you for your help. I will try the DP interior cleaner again and observe what is happening.
I made a post on the Mustang SVO board to see if they could provide some insight.
The dull finish closer to the front is factory. When I was cleaning it I was using a light colored microfiber towel and it just looked like I was getting brown colored dirt off of it. I know the interior grey of a Mustang SVO is different from the other Mustangs of that era.
It looks like the...
Here are the pictures a side view, the rear bumper, where the rear bumper meets the side, and front bumper. You can see where when I pulled tape off from doing some paint correction it pulled off a little of the matte paint in picture three.
Here are the latest pictures. Is it possible the paint has oxidized and disappeared. There are there distinct patches. If you look close at picture four you can see nearest to the front is the factory finish, the next is a darker gray, and the last one that looks like it might be bare vinyl...
I am a little confused on what to do with the black trim piece that goes around the car. On the sides it looks like rubber or it may be painted it is hard to tell. But on the front and rear it looks like a section that was just painted matte instead of glossy. So do I wax these sections or...
How many application of 303, would you recommend? I have done at least half dozen over three hours. I can't tell any difference. The more dramatic change was cleaning with the DP interior clean. I will take some more pictures when the sun comes out.
OK, my DP interior cleaner came in and I have tried it. There is some improvement, but not much. So you think I should rub on some 303 and that should help it? I can try that tomorrow.
Thanks for the input. swanicyouth suggestion worked like a champ. I am learning as I go. I have read the forum for about a year and watched most of the how to videos. But since this is my first try, I am just trying to get it right. The car looks good and tomorrow I plan to put on a coat...
My first detailing/paint correction project on a 1988 black mustang convertible. It had set a number of year in my garage and it was time to get it out and looking good again. Here is my process:
1)Wash two bucket system
2)Clay
3)Heavy coat of Mequire's show car glaze #7 to feed the old paint...
