    Brake Dust Problem

So I went out and noticed that maybe its not "pitted" afterall. I dont see any noticable holes in the area where I just scratched off a few particles. Now I just need to find away to get them off without scratching the wheel. I have a pressure washer too. Its one of those $100 gizmos from...

    Brake Dust Problem

I see where you are going here. It turns purple. I just did a small test spot. Once it turned purple I tried to remove them with my fingernail, which worked, but I put shallow scratches in the wheel in the process. So if we've determined that Iron-X will loosen the debris, what is abrasive...

    Brake Dust Problem

Im wondering if anyone can give me some suggestions how to combat a brake dust problem I have. 2009 Volvo s80 In a few sections of the rear wheels there is speckled brake dust pitted into the wheels. I tried Sonax and Iron-X and clay, none of which removed the speckles. I dont know what to...

    Menzerna SHC300 vs FG400

95 Trans Am (white). 09 Volvo S80 (black) I have a PC7424 Cutting pads are LC CCS - yellow or orange The TA paint was pretty badly swirled. The UC/yellow got about 70% correction over the entire car. The Volvo wasnt as bad (considering its color) and I got about 85% correction on a test...

    WG 3.0 vs 845

I know the general feel around here is that we should experiment and develop our own preferences. But where do I start? If I do half of my black car with one, half with the other, could my untrained eye notice the difference?

    Menzerna SHC300 vs FG400

I think I am learning that Menzerna has the better compounds per $ for full blown paint correction. My Megs UC isnt able to fully fix any of my cars. My question is...whats the difference between these 2 compounds and what should go into my decision making as to which to buy?

    cleaning inside of windshield

If its been a while since I last cleaned them, I use this method on all my interior windows: Dawn w/ warm water, dry, spritz a little Megs window cleaner to finish it off. Mrs. McCoy routinely races out to roll up her windows when she hears thunder....only to find the windows are up, they're...

    LC Smart Pad Fell Apart

I was using a LC CCS yellow pad. I did 2 panels with a pad and switched to a brand new pad. After 2 panels with the new pad it started spitting out yellow sand, which I assume are the cutting materials. When I stopped I realized the felt back also came unglued from the pad. Has this ever...

getting mulch out of microfiber towels?

I had exactly this happen to me last week. I agree with all the suggestions to demote these towels to non-painted surfaces. Let me add some advice - DO NOT wash the mulched towels with your "good" towels. Some of the mulch will come off the already ruined towels and attach to your good towels.

A Few Questions On My First Full Paint Correction

OK so like many other people in here, I read and researched this site for a couple months. Got the detailer's starter kit, and decided my first in depth project would be my white 1995 Trans Am. This car has been sitting for 2+ years. It took me 3 weekends just to wash it to the point where I...

Can I fix this severely scratched insert?

I am doing my first "distressed" paint correction. This is the hood insert from a 95 Trans Am. Can I fix this using regular (or advanced) detailing methods? This picture was after I buffed the crap out of it w/Megs Ultimate Compound. It did next to nothing. Please help. Thanks. (Pic size...

    Im trying to understand clearcoat

I thought about single stage paint too. Do you know if there is a way to determine single paint vs multi-stage? Another thing just hit me. In the same thread there was a mention that this paint was "soft." So the same theory applies, if the clear coat covers the paint, why does the strength of...

    Im trying to understand clearcoat

I read in a thread yesterday where somebody was buffing a black car (maybe it was the Porche thread?) and their pad was turning black? What causes this? I thought cars were covered with clearcoat......so why would the basecoat paint be coming off?

    Decontamination Process

Can anyone help me understand why the standard process is to to Iron-x a car after washing (before claying). I understand the reason why, but it seems awful expensive. Do you all do this diligence when you do your basic wash/wax on customer vehicles? Or is this process only for the high end...
