Placed an order today because of the sale so I relented and ordered some foam booster to try.

Even easier . . . when using the vacuum just hold the tool at a slight angle so that the end of the tool isn't 100% flush with the surface of the rug. If you don't allow a seal to be created at the end of the vacuum tool then you won't get that suction affect that's bothering you.
