Amatuer using the Wolfgang/Porter Cable Swirl Free Kit. Nervous!

I just worked on my car for the first time and just wanted to add a few things that I learned. A lot of what is in the videos seems logical, but won't make total sense until you start using it to see it all in action. Be careful especially on how much product you are putting on the pad. I...

Neglected my paint for too long...

I went with your recommendation earlier when you replied and used the Meguires Water Spot Remover. I think it may have helped some, but those were some awful discoloration spots on there, and nothing but some heavy polishing really got rid of them. Thanks for all the help you have on here.

    DA Polisher Trouble Shooting Guide

I wanted to add what a huge help this article was to helping me get working with a new DA polisher having no experience. I think the biggest area I would emphasize is the amount of product and the cleaning of the pads. I ended up ordering a few extra pads because it is so much easier to keep...

Neglected my paint for too long...

I think the majority of the problem was once the pad was filled up with polish it wasn't doing much cutting at all... Ordered a few more pads to use, and cleaned them more often (washed them in the washing machine with Griots Pad Cleaner and a brush) and that really made all the difference in...

Neglected my paint for too long...

Finished off the hood, roof and trunk lid finally, and I think I have the hang of this polishing a lot better than I did a few days ago. A key for new people is I think to have multiple pads, and pay attention to the very low amount of liquids being applied in most of the videos. 3 little drops...

Neglected my paint for too long...

It was either in the PC 7424 video Mike posted or one of the associated threads, but he figured it was about 7 lbs of pressure with just the weight of the polisher and I think he estimated about 20 lbs of pressure being about maximum you would want to apply. I would say the first application or...

Neglected my paint for too long...

I also forgot to ask about the process with the Dual Action polisher during the work phase... I watched Mike's video on using the PC 7424, and it was a great help, and I made the black lines on the backing pad with a black marker at 12,3,6,9 like he suggested... The part that I was unsure of...

Neglected my paint for too long...

My thoughts on the process and what I have learned here so far... Overall I think the stock paint on a lot of modern cars is unbelievably resiliant. I should have ordered a more aggressive compound and compounding pad, and I think in a few months I will indeed probably go back over the hood...

Neglected my paint for too long...

Well it has taken far longer than I imagined to get a good polisher and all the stuff together to get started on this, but I wanted to post an update for those that have helped me so far. I received by PC 7424 DA polisher, and I ordered up all the foam pads (Chemical Brothers) and liquids...

Neglected my paint for too long...

Thanks for your thoughts, I will certainly look into that sealant for the final product. Maybe 'hard' wasn't the best word for the Klasse... I worked it in good and deep? It certainly made a difference I could see between passes though. And you are right the clear certainly needs some...

Neglected my paint for too long...

Wanted to stop in and give an update on this, and thank everyone for their input. Process has been slower than I had thought to gather up the needed products and find some time to get this done without hurrying it. I purchased the Meguiar's Hard Water Spot remover that Mike and EVOlved...

Neglected my paint for too long...

Any thoughts on if I should clay before trying the vinegar wipe that Mike recommends in another section for water spots? I assumed that would come before claying, because anything that would loosen up and come off before would be a benefit. Always open to input on this.

Neglected my paint for too long...

Actually there is no obvious problems with the surface other than how it looks. I don't see any cracking or peeling or actual damage to the finish, so I figure with the right treatment it can be recovered/saved. Thanks for the input so far, I will be starting the process this weekend, and will...

Neglected my paint for too long...

Have been reading the forums for a while but the last three years having twin boys running around I let far too much car care slide. Wanted to post some pictures and get some thoughts on the best way to attack the problem. This is on a 2007 Jetta Wolfsburg. Looks to me like some really hard...
