    Rotary vs DA vs Flex3401

That's good advice - I'm sanding right now and polishing with the 3401, so maybe I will be trying the wool in the rotary yet....

    Rotary vs DA vs Flex3401

I have owned the DA portercable 7424 (non XP) model for several years and used it for light polishing and waxing. Recently I tackled a project on my 52 jeep and needed more power, so I bought a Mikita 9237C rotary. I used denim and velvet Carpro pads and briefly tried wool pads with it. Then...

Dual Action Buff out of Orange Peel - Advice Request

Going to try to answer the questions myself.... The Flex3401 is too powerful. Use the portercable or the air DA on 25% power. Also , I'm not wet sanding, rather damp sanding. I'm going to use Mequiars #04 Heavy cut cleaner (8/10) on the wool pad at 900rpms. Still researching.....

Dual Action Buff out of Orange Peel - Advice Request

Re-sprayed the clearcoat on the weekend and it went pretty well. Very slight orange peel, however I got a few drips to sand out and some dirt contaminants entrained in the clearcoat. I bought a 3M Trizact 3000 grit pad and would like to use it. My plan is to block sand out the drips by hand...

Dual Action Buff out of Orange Peel - Advice Request

Before I slip away for a while to re-spray, I want to clarify something. This job is my "test". My jeep was painted in 1994 and had some pretty bad scratches and horribly sunbaked fat pinstriping. I started by repairing the paint on fender, cowling and underside of the hood and it turned out...

Dual Action Buff out of Orange Peel - Advice Request

Ok, I can't show the final photos yet. I cut through the clear coat in a spot test. Not enough to damage the basecoat, but I need to re-spray the clear. Then go from there. Oh well I can hone my "non orange peel" spray techniques.

    Meguiars Ultimate Compound

I understand the Mirror Glaze family, but this product is available where I live and it does not have a cut rating. How does it fit in the Meguiars family? http://www.meguiars.com/en/automotive/products/g17216-ultimate-compound/

Dual Action Buff out of Orange Peel - Advice Request

Back to the DA with an orange foam pad and SSR3. Nada. No go. Still got the marks. Then I had an epiphany, try the velvet pad on the DA with Meguiar's Heavy Cut M0416 (8/10) (I can't find Ultra Cut M105 here and wasn't patient enough to order it). Still couldn't get the swirl marks out. So I put...

Dual Action Buff out of Orange Peel - Advice Request

I decided to buy a rotary buffer - got the Makita 9237CX2 - sweet machine, quiet, slow startup and I found one locally on sale. So my thoughts were, if the orange peel removing pads were designed for the rotary buffer, then I would likely get the most out of them on a rotary machine, since the...

Dual Action Buff out of Orange Peel - Advice Request

First I tried the denim pad on the my DA portercable with Poorboys SS3. After 3 separate runs with 6-8 passes I still was not satisfied. See photos belows. Fender: Hood:
