    Sanding Fresh 1K Clearcoat

Just about done, waiting on a few parts from a friend in Texas now. It's a great match, the rest of the car has three months worth of dust on it, hence the slight difference. Pretty impressive, the paint still matches the original chip, nearly 35 years later.

    Sanding Fresh 1K Clearcoat

Here it is everyone. It looked bad in the sun. Spent about 2.5 hours sanding by hand with 1500, 2000, 2500, then UC on a yellow pad with my DA. I had tried machine sanding, but I felt I couldn't get an accurate feel if how much I was taking off. So, I would sand a little, spray it with soapy...

    Sanding Fresh 1K Clearcoat

Hi all, I got ahold of some sandpaper in the various grits. However, I went out tonight to take a look at the header in my shop, and under the shop lighting, much to my surprise, the finish looks amazingly good. Yes, there are a few scratches you can see here and there from where I evidently...

    Sanding Fresh 1K Clearcoat

Hi all, Hit a deer with my '83 Continental a few months back, and I've finally tracked down a header panel. I ordered all my paint stuff from paintscratch.com, and the clearcoat is a 1K clear. I've got multiple coats on, but there's a lot of orange peel (all aerosol here). I want to sand it...

Can I Do Much More With This Single Stage?

This is how it currently sits. The haze annoys me, but I don't think, short of possibly wetsanding and doing it all over again, it will get any better. It's still a massive improvement from how it looked after I washed all the mildew and dirt off (photo #2) Ultimately it will require a...

Can I Do Much More With This Single Stage?

What color/grade of pad is recommended, white? I think I have a few of them somewhere, along with some Optimum Polish II. 1979 was the final year for the full size car. Ford held out longer than the rest, but by 1980, it was inevitable. The Town Car was still big from 1980-onwards, but it never...

Can I Do Much More With This Single Stage?

The thing is, the car has sat outside in the sun since 1999. The paint came back shockingly well considering, but it's not 100%. I'm just trying to get it as nice as reasonably possible for the time being, then a repaint down the road is a possibility.

Can I Do Much More With This Single Stage?

Hi all, About a month ago, I bought a 1979 Lincoln Continental as a project. As you can see, the paint was the least of this car's problems, however, most of which have been worked out. Some minor body work and a top are all that's needed now to make it a presentable "driver". My question...

Repainting DD, how do I protect it?

Hi all, Hopefully in the next couple weeks, I'll be sending my 1994 Town Car into the body shop for a full strip down and repaint. The paint job is going to run nearly double what the car is worth, but it was my first car, and it has a lot of sentimental value to me, so I am opting to repaint...

How Do I Fix/Reduce Indentations In Leather?

Hi, Good idea on the steaming towel, I'll leave those on it while I'm working on it tonight. Yes, once the leather is repaired and all the cracks reinforced and filled in, I plan on using Leatherique to redye the seats. I'm going to send them a sample today, and hopefully everything I need...

How Do I Fix/Reduce Indentations In Leather?

Just an update, a good steaming of both the foam, and the pad did the trick. Seat is very comfortable now, and nearly all the indentations are gone. I think one more session with the steamer will take care of the last of them. Now, just waiting for some new leather to arrive... :D

How Do I Fix/Reduce Indentations In Leather?

Well, I tried the steamer again on these (I had done it previously on another set), and while the seats look much, much better, most all of the dimples remain. On the other hand, the massive indentation is nearly gone, and the seat foam has puffed back up nicely. :D I'll give it another go...

How Do I Fix/Reduce Indentations In Leather?

Hi all, I bought a set of seats out of a '93 Town Car Cartier today at the junkyard for a project I'm working on, and while the rear and passenger seats look like they came out of a 3 year old car, the drivers seat needs some help. Aside from the chunk of leather missing (easy patch fix, no...

    Clear Coat Failure Question

Hi there, Waxing/sealing does seem to make a difference in how rapidly the clearcoat de-laminates. I kept my old '94 Town Car washed and waxed religiously, but the clearcoat slowly started to fail. When I sold it (1/13), the trunk, hood, and roof still had about 60-75% of the clear left on it...
