ADS...The Story!

In my opinion, it's just another YouTube brand like DIY Detail. I'm not saying that's good or bad but after falling for some of these hyped up brands of the month or year, I've learned the YouTube marketing game. I also never really felt good about that all the ADS products say to wear eye and respiratory protection but they never do this in their videos.

Final thoughts, if a brand needs to constantly be hyped up then it's probably not a really good brand. A really good brand will let the products speak for itself.

That reminds me of the BBQ YouTubers and their black gloves, in the name of food safety of course, but then they proceed to cross contaminate everything. Yuck!

Totally agree on a good product selling itself. Look at Tec582. Not a single ad, no YouTube pitch man (just a lot of fans). I also love sleeper products like that for another reason, they out the sneaky pitchmen who test other products but refuse to mention others.

I've talked to DJ a few times, he was/is in my neck of the woods, totally passionate about detailing and a really nice guy. I wish him well.

If the protection is only for liability reasons, then that seems suspect as well. Best practice would be to make safe products and be as transparent as possible with the SDS sheets.

IMO the whole glove wearing thing is done for political correctness or fear of getting “cancelled” by everyone. [btw how stupid is that concept]?

As far as wearing gloves for the task of cleaning wheels.. If someone were to really need to be careful due to hazardous chemicals, they’d be wearing gloves up past the forearms, because wearing normal gloves and getting wet or reaching into a bucket renders the whole thing useless.

Wearing gloves to apply ceramic coating works, but gloves to bucket wash a car is pretty useless.

I agree with you but I'd venture a majority of us don't wear gloves when spraying on ADS Tire Cleaner, for example, so IMO it's more of a CYA on ADS' part

FWIW I'm about as regular backyard detailer there is and being here since February of 2012 and a pretty consistent contributor here should carry "some" weight, so I couldn't disagree more about ADS being a "YouTube brand", the easiest example of that is Spam, period

Bradley himself has said on multiple occasions that he is not necessarily a people person, or fully comfortable in front of a camera. Do they have a Youtube channel? Yes...................just like every other major detailing brand. Why? Because in addition to be a platform for selling, it's also to provide product information to the consumer. Does this mean Gyeon, Carpro, Meguiar's, Turtle Wax, Mothers, Armour All and countless others are Youtube brands as well? Going off what some are saying here, Meguiar's is a Youtube brand, well, you had all better stop buying from them too.

I said being a YouTube brand is not necessarily a good or bad thing. I consider a YouTube brand to meet the following -

1) A particular product is hyped up as the best by a lot of the YouTube detailing channels within a week or two of each other. This was the case with ADS Hero and ADS Pilot around a year ago. They basically are singing the same song at the same time. Then as time goes on the product may not live up to the hype. I know a lot of people love Hero but others don't like it and have experienced streaking and smudges especially on glass.

2) The general public wouldn't no about the brand if it wasn't for YouTube.

I never said ADS makes bad products. I just feel some of them are over hyped and usually don't fare as the best in the various shootouts even though they are touted as such.
 
I have never tried any ADS products. From what I've watched and read many of their products perform well and some are just mediocre. But I consider ADS to be boutique products and at the upper end of price/value market. There are certainly products that perform similarly that are much less expensive.
Also they are not above hyping their products. Several months ago I emailed Bradley and ask him if Amplify could be diluted. He responded that diluting Amplify is not recommended. However ADS does recommend spraying Amplify on a wet surface and used as a drying aid. We'll spraying Amplify on a wet surface is diluting the product and a direct contradiction to what Bradlley reported to my inquiry.
I prefer products that can be diluted.

I'm not sure raw video counts are an effective way to disprove someone isn't a youtube brand. Saying the mainstream guys are more likely a youtube brand is silly, they are mass market brands that are obliged to have some youtube content.
 
Well FWIW our Deyon got me into ADS, it started with their regular ceramic coating for me and I was hooked!

As far as EVERYTHING being great, well, NOONE has that line, that's what's great about choice. That said, IMO, the ADS standouts for me are as follows:

-Ghost
-Tire+
-Pilot
-Phobics
-Ceramic coating

Part Deux of my thoughts since the app issue is still present

I don't have enough experience with Amplify & Adapt but I know they have multiple uses. I recently got Clean from them, diluted @ 10:1 for medium duty cleaning, haven't used it yet so stay "tuned"

In closing it shouldn't matter HOW you found a product but rather how it worked for YOU

ADS got there following through the You toobers like Eddie colon, Jamie the cleaner even your favorite Pan. The help build his brand. Hero is the product it is because of Eddie. I’d be willing to wager they started using ADS’s blender for there detail co line.

Have I used any of there products? No. There are great things being said about pans product as well. Haven’t tried any of those two.

A lot of folks here were on DiY details. I know you liked a few. Now look where they are.

Also just because I put them in the same bucket doesn’t mean what I think of there company or products. The are catering to the boutique customer with their 16oz crowd. They use Social media to sell there products. Just because I think there business model is similar/same as Pan doesn’t mean I think they are bad products bad business…

But they are part of that same group you just don’t want to look at there very early connection.

Still the same company you champion who make good products.

The guz was the one who i learned of ADS from if i remember correctly.

The Guz is part of the detailing YouTube community (for the record one of few YouTube channels I’m subscribed too) aas well. We like some…. Some we don’t. YouTuber using there products is how it starts. Good thing is they seem to have good products.

I trust and the guys on here. I just don’t have a problem with YouTubers and their brands it’s just how marketing works nowadays. Not worry about the guys weather I like them…. I don’t… it’s about the product. Most brands are done this way and started way before ADS, DIY and detail Co.

I don’t watch pan, don’t really care for his reviews…. He’s kinda corny… but if I ever put a detail Co order in I’ll try his rinseless and maybe soap.

I don’t care what talking heads are saying… don’t care if they all use same blender…. Don’t care if they don’t. pay them no mind.

But if you make a product I think might be better for my paint than what I’m using I’ll give it a try…. It’s about my car not whether I like the guy fronting the company…

I thought I am not a fan, I did try Pan’s rinseless. It’s good. I’m curious about his shampoo. The ADS glass coating is the best I’ve tried and Ghost is the only tire oroduct I think is worth the effort. I have but haven’t tried Hero. Their wheel coating is good but I’m finding it at a time I’m wondering about wheel specific coatings. Oh, and their tire cleaner is top notch. The ADS guys are very responsive too — both email and Facebook group.

I probably would not have tried DIY if Guz hadn’t helped me with some. I like what I’ve used (now much of the line). Yvan is responsive to things as well. That might be the biggest advantage of these YouTube guys.

Lot of people loved DiY. Now they don’t… nothings change. Ivan’s always been a Hustler ( in a good way). Hes just not my cup of tea. I just feel ADS was a flavor of the month just like DiY….

People will think that’s bad but you have to make products that people like to be the flavor of the month.

We all want to move on and “discover” the latest and greatest…

That defines the enthusiast side of detailing and YT marketing is targeted for them. That is why there are always new brands. You rarely see any YT brand talking about aspects cost per use, etc with the enthusiast crowd.,

As I see it DIY Detail had their time in the sun and now as newer brands emerge, they seem to be on a mission to generate videos to maintain attention with more how to videos on youtube.
