What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

I figured you would be recommending 3D AAT 505 correction glaze
Lol that is what i have but i had thought you had said previously that you had 3d speed.(i could have be mistaken). Speed and 505 are suppossed to be same product but 505 is bodyshop safe.

Presoaked the Tacoma with Road Warrior. Did a foam wash with Hyper Wash. Aqua gloss on the tires and Optimum hybrid drying aid on the wheels.

I think I will try what I already have because I know the Griot's Boss Creams played well with that particular paint when I was experimenting last winter and then apply some Megs HCW so if it sits a while while I advertise it I can just hit it with Megs HCD to freshen it up

That paint is gorgeous

What Tonneau cover did you go with?

I went with a Real Truck, Gator SFX which is a soft vinyl tri fold. Believe it was $238.00.
Would have liked to have a hard folding cover but they are too much $$.
If one uses the full bed on s regular basis one of the roll up covers may be convenient.
The Gator SFX is super simple to remove completely and is very light if one needs to remove the whole thing.

That was suggested to me by another guy I know whose ideas I respect

My only concern with a soft top would be snow load in case we were traveling and were parked outside for any length of time

It is crazy how the prices climb after you get past the $300-$500 bracket of soft tops

Most of the truck goodies stores won't ship up here so I am either going to have to bite the bullet and buy a hard top locally and be looking at $1,000-$1,500 or order one off Amazon for $500 with free shipping, if they even will. I haven't popped in my zip code to see

I looked for a few weeks on Craigslist/ebay. Found one that fit and was never installed but the reviews on that particular brand were bad. Being that only a 2024 or 2025 cover will fit and the fact that it's a 6 ft bed finding something used is difficult. Most of the used covers are for 5 ft beds.
We have a place around here called " Mac Bid" that sells returns and discontinued items from A-Z and it's all stuff from Amazon and Lowes. I was looking on that site for a hard tonneau cover but again the 2024/2025 and the 6 ft bed limit the possibilities.
I have gotten some great deals on Mac Bid for detailing items. Such as I got a brand new IK Multi Pro 12 for $3.00 plus fees but think the total was less than $8.00. Also got a brand new IK Pro Foam 12 for a total for of less than $20.00.

Wow, those are awesome scores

Yeah, the 6’ bed is definitely harder to shop for

And park…

Wash day for the Qashqai, the rain really does a number on this paint, meanwhile the FJ sits outside and doesn't show any of it. I used a leftover bucket of Reset, I was topping it up and decided to add a dab of Ech2o rather than more Reset, just out of curiosity, it still worked great. I foamed it up first, to release whatever could be released. Wheels were done first with Wheely Clean. Then I brought it back inside to dry, used Meg's HCD as a drying aid, works OK, but not as good as Ech2o or After Glow, it doesn't seem to aid with absorption like the others do. Gloss is still excellent though.

I noticed I got some over spray on the FJ while rinsing off the Qashqai, so I wiped it off with Meg's HCD, then did all the silver paint, I couldn't help myself. It's now a month since I put Bowden's Sweet Rubber on both vehicles, it's still hanging in there, but I might top them up this week PSX_20250805_160414.jpg

I could swear the Nissan was purple 💜 but it's blue.
overall thoughts on Sweet Rubber?

I like it, it lasted well on all but the curbside tyres on the Qashqai, I guess it doesn't have much abrasive resistance. Seems to apply very evenly, and not overly glossy, just the way I like it.

I was reading some MSDS and if car soap gets on your skin you wash it with....soap!
I worked with a guy who said you can't pay attention to an MSDS because it's all CYA and they will tell you to wear all kinds of PPE with stuff that's actually safe so they don't get sued. Sadly I think that may largely be true, which kind of defeats the purpose of the MSDS in warning you what you need to be careful with. On the other hand, maybe it should just encourage us to engage in good industrial hygiene at all times.

I have been out in the garage fighting the windshield on the Tacoma for the past half hour

It has some serious water spotting that I thought I had gotten rid of but I drove it yesterday evening and it is horrible

I tried several progressions of cleaning and finally after claying with my TRC Clay Scrubber and WW strength ONR I think it is ok

It looks ok in the garage but I won't know until I drive it this afternoon since I am watering this morning and I won't take it outside with the sprinklers running

I did a 2x2 foot section in front of the driver's seat so I have a reference when I actually get in it

I got sent this from the teen I mentor. It was a screenshot from a potential customer.
pic share

He texted me and asked If I would be able to help with the detail since that's a bit above their pay grade. I told them to first get pictures of the damage and we could go from there. I think this is karma telling the owner to never use automatic washes again. Will she listen.......................................probably not.

They do make some windshield friendly water spot removers, The one I have says not use on them.

Your best solution would be a glass polish on DA machine.

It’s not that bad

What I tried helped considerably but there was still some spotting

I made up a small amount of a heavy Gyeon Restart and water solution and used that to lube some real clay and it worked 100%

Last couple days it's been the touch-free wash routine

Yeah, those are the two main detergents used in everything, or derivatives thereof.
