Ahhh, I got your attention! So this came to me after watching "Bar Rescue", a fun show to watch, even for someone like me who doesn't drink at all. Now I see Mike Phillips doing the rehab but nothing like Jon Taffer, host of the show because even though I don't know Mike Phillips at all I can't see him being like that based off of the videos but rather goes into various carwashes and detail shops and set them straight. Now if this doesn't work I'm sure that Mike knows someone who could do it and its not like he doesn't have connections in the TV business, right.

Now there's all types of shows that had a run or runs, I mean that show in Miami about the guy who flips cars got a season, why not give this idea a chance, that show was horrible! We've all seen or heard of cars that come out of one of these 'professional" shops, imagine the entertainment factor of this show?!

I haven't come up with a show idea, yet but that's where all you guys come in, let's pitch this, you never know:buffing:

I came up with a couple:

-Attention 2 Detail

-Its all in the Details

-Do it right the 2nd time around!

Let the brain storming begin!

This would work under the following conditions:
-If the owner had several employees.
(To determine if employees are rude to customers, stealing, etc...)
-If it was mainly a express detail shop at a carwash.
(It might work in a correction shop, but the show is there mainly for one to three days, and they want to see as many cars as possible)
-If the owner wasn't always on site.
(So again this would mainly imply car washes, express bays)

Things that it could help out potentially:
-Theft
+From yourself or your customers.
-Quality Control
+Your towels, wash practices, product used.
-Training
+To help with the previous example, along with customer service.
-Marketing
-Money Management
-Equipment
-Appearance
-Paint the shop, interior/exterior, logo, signs, etc...

Hope this helps.

"Top Shine"

3 detailing guru's with different personalities and backgrounds go into a shop, find out what's wrong and turn it around....maybe! Imagine the sponsors for this one, besides the big companies, maybe the smaller ones can get in on the action. I think the show would be very entertaining to say the least, I mean everyone washes their cars, right (for the most part) so its not like the average Joe can't relate to what's going on with the show.

Great ideas and since your the owner of a shop I wouldn't expect less:dblthumb2: BTW, cool name but I guess you hear that all the time, huh!

Klasse I love the idea! Bar rescue is a very interesting show but like you say, Mike Phillips is too nice and professional to shout down the owners/employees like what John Taffer does lol!

But if he did he could come in after "Recon" and say somthing like: "I see you only use one bucket for your washes, DONT YOU KNOW YOU COULD BE CAUSING SWIRLS!!!" Or: "I DID NOT SEE YOUR EMPLOYEES INSPECTING THEIR WASH MEDIA ONE TIME DURING THE ENTIRE WASH PROCESS!!!" and "TAKE THOSE TIRED OLD DIRTY MICROFIBERS TO THE DUMP NOW!!!"

The possibilities are endless.

That's exactly how I see this playing out because its informative and many people would not only be entertained but informed, a win win IMO! I know there's more than enough sponsership out there, so how about it Mike?

Interesting idea but the thought of someone running around yelling at bar owners because their kitchens are dirty is one thing.. but what would you really have with more than one episode of "top shine"?

"A WOOL PAD AND A ROTARY!! TO POLISH? ARE YOU SERIOUS?!"

"You don't use MICROFIBERS?!"

"You call that a section pass? No wonder you only had 3 appointments last week!"

I just don't see the drama factor. :) Watching someone spend 3 hours polishing a car is just not exciting, much less 20.

That would be awesome, you could call it "Car Rescue"

How about Detailing Rescue?

The problem with these shows is that conflict between the host and the ones being rescued seems to be an essential part of the show. It often seems staged or over exaggerated plus editing can do a lot.

Well there's bad techiques, bad attitudes, the customers alone could fill a couple seasons and then there's the business side of it, also some focus on the cars/trucks too, everyone likes their rides!

Probably be a great show since lots of detail shop owners/operators are great detailers but horrible businessmen. They give away a lot of free time, labor, and money. They work alot hours and dont make enough money to make it worth it. but they are passionate detailers.

Well said, just how it is I bet!

I take the above as a compliment.

TV is about entertainment but I for one don't like the mocked-up drama that shows like this use to keep their audience. That's just me though...

This is the same reason I would never watch American Chopper, couldn't stand the immature drama.

Here's a few shows that are not only fun to watch, they are also family friendly and mature.

Take a look shows like,

Overhaulin with Chip Foose and team, no drama, just the real deal.

Car Crazy with Barry Meguiar, no drama just good clean fun.

My Classic Car with Dennis Gage, no drama just good clean fun.

Chasing Classic Cars with Wayne Carini, no drama just good clean fun.

Truck U with Matt Steel and Bruno Massel, no drama but plenty of good clean joking around and they actually show you how to do procedures.

Two Guys Garage with Kevin Byrd and Willie B, lots of joking around but no drama, plus they show you how you can tackle real projects.

These are just a few examples, you guys can figure out which show have the drama and which show don't. There's something for everyone on TV.

I think if there's a detail shop in need of an extreme makeover, then my opinion is the owner, or owners would like "real" help, not mocked-up drama including being yelled at.

If a person running a business is doing something wrong, chances are good it's because they don't know anything else or anything better. If they are open to new ideas, then they would listen to someone that had real help to offer.

Add a director, producer, camera crew etc. and then you might have a they kind of show I would watch and would even be associated with.

I like Rich Evans, we go way back and it was fun to watch him mix it up on Car Warriors, but I still didn't care for the drama on that show. I liked the car builds but just didn't care for the drama nonsense.

I like to be a part of things that help others, not belittle or demean them. That's why I like this quote and use it for a way to live my life,

"You can have everything in life that you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want"

-Zig Ziglar

But yeah, TV is all about entertainment and a lot of people like to watch drama. I get enough drama in real life that I don't need or want to watch it on TV.

:)

Mike,

I absolutely meant it as a compliment! From my time on AG I have learned that are a top notch detailer/instructor with a professional, helpful, and friendly attitude and in my post I meant that I just can't see you acting like John Taffer does lol!

I just got the idea from watching "Bar Rescue", the show doesn't have to have the drama at all, you mentioned good examples Mike. The "Detail Show" could focus on going around to help out shops in need of "direction", think about it Mike.

Now you wanna talk about a show "mocked up", look no further than "Are you faster than a redneck". Are there southern people like this, sure but I know guys down there that not only hate NASCAR but like imports, there's more than you might think. Being from Detroit there's plenty of the "Woodward generation" that don't get 2.0L turbo's with 300+ hp or 3.8L TT's with 500+ hp ( these same people got their azz's handed to them 25 yrs ago by turbo Regals too ) They're so stuck with "its gotta be a V8" but that generation is dying off anyways. The show should've focused on "real" car enthusists that don't get import performance and for that matter, domestic perf that follows the same formula. For me, this is also education, nothing like showing up someone older and ignint who thinks they really know it all, been there, done that with old 87' Grand National over 17 yrs ago, good times for sure ========

You may want something more like "Car Talk" except you try to fix the car.

Well they've got a ton of those shows, 2 guys garage, Car Fix and All Girls Garage (needs to be cancelled if it hasn't already) The name "Car Talk" is already taken by Click and Clack on public radio, so you wouldn't want that one anyways.

So I went on a little rant earlier, big surprise, about my elders and how they don't understand boosted 4's and 6's out there and while out on my route I see a newer Camaro w/ 21" wheels and aftermarket exhaust on the V6 (oh the humanity, terrible!) and his plate frame said STUPID with the U being the green/yellow JDM sticker to show novice driver. Oh yeah, the car had the base wheels on the back with possible cheater slicks but I don't know for sure, migtht have gotten a flat possibly and he was a younger guy. I'd love to have a V6 Accord w/6 spd pull up next to him and put the smack down! You never see the import guys slamming the classic muscle, its always the othher way around, infact they seem to respect the muscle but just chose to not drive them, that's all. They do buy classic Japanese cars though and fix them up, so the classic thing is also out there in the import world but the "Woodward generation" seems to ignore even their own modern muscle like Cobalt SS, Neon SRT-4, Ion Redline, Focus ST/SVT, Caliber SRT-4 and even the older fwd cars that paved the way for them, ignent! One thing I really hope and don't expect is for the current generation to dress up in today's clothing and music and walk around a cruize night like the "Woodward generation" does with the sockhop outfits and Elvis impersonaters, horrible! I think the dress up stuff is ridiculous, your over 60, sometimes 70 and older, geeeez!
