3" bp with 3"+ pads is absolutely fine. The point is having just a bit more pad diameter than backing plate diameter esp when working in tighter recesses. Just be mindful that if you still have a 6" or 5" counterweight it's gonna want to whip that smaller bp/pad somewhat aggressively. But...

A while back when still using my PC 7336 i eventually abandoned any pad larger than 5, 5.25 inches. I replaced my 6" bp with a 4.75" and ran 5" pads. It was sooo much better. I replaced the 6" counterweight with a 5" (2 screws) and noticed it was slightly smoother. I then went even smaller...

I agree with opie, i.e. one layer is all i need. I use the same applicator's as him too.

I'm also in Tampa and although the heat is wicked to work in i've not had any problems applying coatings. I adjust according to the coating.

I'd be doing Mohs Evo. Wetcoat or Can Coat once a quarter to boost.

If $450 is a quote for wash, full decon, paint correction and a quality 2 or 2+ year ceramic coating i wouldn't trust it.
