    Chemical Guys Lava Video

I think Greg in the video gets carried away sometimes. I'm told it's a hybrid wax emulsion..polymers plus various waxes.

    Chemical Guys Lava Video

Nice video. Yes, the PC is the way to go....plus using either HV7 or BF Poly Spray to amp up the slickness. I do this after Lava cures (12 hrs.). CG has some good products, but there is the hype factor. Greg in the video says Lava is one of few products that can be applied by hand or...

    Lava Wax Application- update

Flannigan- will look forward to your review. I've never gotten much from pics of different LSPs ...after proper prep, it's always good. I think we've all seen pics of excellently polished cars with no LSP that look great. The tip from you of using a PC is all I was passing along. Guess a...

    Lava Wax Application- update

In my other post about applying Lava I mentioned applying it by hand, but after reading Flannigan's comment about using a PC, I have now tried that. This is the way to go. Lava is easily dipped from the jar (I just used my fingers) and thinly spread on a flat 5.5" red LC pad. I used speed 3...

CG Lava- my application & issues

Thanks Megan. Lava is different for sure. I guess my issue was more of the application and removal. It's a little more difficult than I expected, but then again, I'm spoiled with Fuzion, Souveran, Midnight Sun which I find super easy on/off and with good slickness....not sealant slickness...

CG Lava- my application & issues

I applied it at 50-55 F. I assume this is a hybrid carnauba-polymer LSP....maybe heavy on the polymer? Maybe someone can chime in. From reading, it's poured hot and is an emulsion of some kind. I saw no directions on my container....but with CG that's not all bad....sometimes they're...

CG Lava- my application & issues

KneeDagr- My eyes are "old", but I saw nothing out of the ordinary as far as color enhancing....the look to me is comparable to most quality paste carnaubas. A very nice deep, glossy look.

CG Lava- my application & issues

Thanks Flannigan....as far as slickness, I get better slickness out of all the carnaubas I have (too many), but that's not a big deal. What was interesting was Lava got less slick as it cured, usually I see just the opposite. I'll try only letting it dry 5-10 minutes to see if that helps...

How Many Times can you correct paint on one car?

It depends....not a good answer I know, but without measuring the clear, it's a guessing game. I used to thoroughly correct (polish) every 4 months, but I have dropped that back to once a year and with a "light" correction at 6 months. IME, I have seen clearcoat break through on some edges...

CG Lava- my application & issues

After cleaning/polishing off the previous LSP, I tried CG's Lava wax on the hood of my car. The look is nice...wet, glossy, deep, but I had some application issues. The whipped butter consistency led me to try dipping my fingers into it and spreading it on a foam (CG red UFO) pad. I did this...

    Orange peel

Great info. I know some claim orange peel is usually only in the clearcoat, but I always questioned that. From this thread I see that it starts from the beginning of the painting process (primer/base coat) which makes sense to me...and when you sand the clear you just remove or reduce what's...

Blackfire Crystal Seal - The 11 Minute Paint Sealant

Had a chance to use Crystal Spray...very nice. Once the MF pad is primed with a spray or two, just one spray to a panel (no more to MF....less is more). Is it better than UPGP or OptiSeal?...I can't say. Slick like BFWD.

    !!New Blackfire Massive Product Review

Bill, I appreciate your reply. I did not intend to step on any toes. I've used BFWD and Midnight Sun (aka Blackfire Wet Diamond Wax) since their inception (Terry Freiberg I believe brought them to market at CMA). They are among the best. The pic after the rally says it all....happy detailing.

    !!New Blackfire Massive Product Review

Bill, I understand your point(s) and I thoroughly enjoyed the reviews and respect the work you put in. I do realize you are trying to compare the relative durability of BFWD old vs. new WHEN applied to Opti-Coat. I just wanted to comment that it may be difficult to glean much durability...

    !!New Blackfire Massive Product Review

Great review, but you mention your car has Opti Coat. My understanding is that topping OC with anything will not last very long....so I'm not sure about using an OC car for a durability test, even if just trying to compare products on the same car? JMO.
