    Backing Plate Loss of "Stick"

I used a 2-3/4" backing plate with a 4" foamed wool pad on my rotary this weekend. The plate and pad were brand new and worked great initially. But after a while the pad would fly off the plate. I tried other pads with the same result. Is there a way to restore the grip of the backing plate?

    Opinions on Window Tint?

I also live in Florida and tint all my cars' windows. My F-150 supercrew and my wife's Murano came with factory tinted glass on the rear doors and rear window, so we tinted the front doors to match. Looks much better IMO and very functional as mentioned. The only "ghetto" ones I've seen are...

    Balancing Weight on Aluminum Wheel

The local Ford dealer already came through and replaced the wheel, as the weight chipped off the clear coat and they thankfully took responsibility for it. But if I had left it to avoid leaving a mark, that would seem to only be a temporary fix, as eventually I will need to replace the tires...

Balancing beads? I've never heard of them either. May have to look into that....

    Balancing Weight on Aluminum Wheel

Just wanted to share a good experience. I took my truck in for an oil change in early July and mentioned that I really didn't like the weight being on the outside of the wheel. The service rep completely understood my dissatisfaction and agreed to move it to the inside. When I picked up the...

Low mileage, original 89 Camaro Iroc-z by Advanced Detailing of South Florida

I had an 89 IROC in burgundy. This thread brings back memories. Of course mine never looked that good. Great job!

    Balancing Weight on Aluminum Wheel

Thanks Bobby, that's the approach I'm going to take. I'm hopeful that the wheel is not damaged (hey, i'm an optimist), but if it is I'll try to get them to replace it. The one thing in my favor is that this is the Ford dealership where I bought my truck. If they want my repeat business, they...

How to fix a deliberate deep key scratch

Like Joe said, the pearl paints are much harder to touch up, but you did a great job. Just wondering, do you have any recently scorned ex-girlfriends? They can be viscious (or so I hear).

    Balancing Weight on Aluminum Wheel

Mike, You must have taken that to a quality tire shop, as I do not see any balancing weights on this side of the wheel. And since they are probably 10 lb dumbells, they would be quite obvious. Craig

    Balancing Weight on Aluminum Wheel

Unfortunately I did not specify which side to put the weights. The other three wheels, and previously this wheel, have their weights on the inside. I assumed this was standard for aluminum wheels. Shame on me. Looks like fixing it will most likely be at my cost.

    Balancing Weight on Aluminum Wheel

I knew the machine told them where to put the weight as far as azimuth, but I didn't realize it told them inside or outside. Dang.

    Balancing Weight on Aluminum Wheel

I recently had a tire replaced on my truck. I didn't look closely at it when I picked it up, so I didn't notice right away, but they ended up putting a balancing weight on the outside of the wheel. (By outside I mean on the side of the wheel that you see). Before I take it back and demand...

How do u guys fix this

I don't have any suggestions, but I do have a question. If this car had a coating of CQuartz or Opti-Coat, would this incident be a big problem? I mean, would you be able to just peel the spilled paint off of the car once it dried, since nothing is supposed to stick to these coatings?

Can a newbie realistically apply Opti-coat?

Thanks Jim - I'm happy with it, but the pollen doesn't let it stay shiny for long. The plant I work at has about 800 employees, with pickups being the most popular type of vehicle. This morning at a safety meeting one of the guys told me that I've always got the cleanest truck in the parking...

Can a newbie realistically apply Opti-coat?

Yes, you can do it! I just did my F150 last Friday. I bought the OC last fall during one of the AG specials, but I procrastinated using it because (1) I had never done any true correction, (2) I was afraid of screwing up my truck with a permanent coating, and (3) the Fusion I had on there was...

Griot's 3 inch, or small plate and pads?

Ditto to this response. I just got mine a few months ago, and it looks just like the one pictured above. Any amount of pressure and it stops spinning. As stated previously, if you only want to apply waxes and sealants, it is probably ok. But if you want to use it for correcting, you may be...

    Protecting Powder Coated Finish

Thanks Blackthorn. I've already got some opti-coat for the truck - just waiting for the Fuzion to wear off a little more before I apply it. If I can stretch it, I'll put that on the cover too.
