Yes I tried it with the file, and it made a little difference. The guard actually dropped about 1/2 inch more but not all the way to the bottom of the bucket I think somewhere somebody QC was overlooked.

are you referring to the little bumps on the outside ring? because my will not fit all the way to the bottom of the bucket, as the picture with the brush underneath the grit guard is how mine fits, but if i use a different bucket it fits all the way to the bottom.
