    Restoring black exterior moldings

I don't have any experience with Ultima Trim & Tire Guard, but I do enjoy Meguiars Ultimate Protectant. It came out last year as a thick lotion but this year they came out with a spray. The lotion works very well, provided you apply it thin with a foam applicator and work it into the trim. I...

Epic Review - 2006 Subaru Spring Detail

I agree with you on the Hyper Compound Spray splatter. I tried it out today on my '02 Accent (writeup and pics coming once it's finished) and loved its working time and correction ability. To eliminate splatter, try opening the nozzle almost to the point where it comes off, use a slow pull of...

Duped by local "detailer", now need to make it right

I can't comment on many of the popular recommendations here (Griot's polisher, 105/205 and Meg's MF System) since I haven't used them, but I can recommend some other products that may be overlooked: - A good short handle, long hair wheel/tire brush. I got mine from a distributor in British...

Duped by local "detailer", now need to make it right

I live somewhat in the same area as you. I'm in Cornwall, Ontario, roughly 1 hour east of Ottawa or about 6-7 hours NE of Sarnia. Your hockey team, the Sarnia Sting, was once located in Cornwall and proudly won two Memorial Cups as the Cornwall Royals back in the early 80s. Back on the topic of...

Kids leave swirls. Bad idea. :nomore:

Did About 10 Waterless Washes Last Week- All I Really Have to Say Is....

Different products. He's talking about Waterless Wash, like Optimum OptiClean. ONR, Ultima and DP are rinseless washes that still require water to use.

    Detailing challenge...

Start with the least aggressive method. In this case, I would say 2 oz ONR mixed with 1 gallon of sulphuric acid. Gloves highly recommended. :D

    Bird Droppings - Autoglym study

Be nice if a company could come up with synthetic bird poo that has the same pH and viscosity for these purposes. How often can you honestly say that you want a bird to do its business on your car?

    Best wheel cleaner?

Optimum Power Clean. Non acidic (AFAIK), nice smell, plus it can be used in other areas of the car. I don't think Sonax Full Effect is recommended as a leather cleaner. Just sayin. ;)

    What is your favorite AIO?

Optimum PoliSeal. Decent cut, slick as glass, great shine. Top with Collinite 845 for added durability.

    Over-Dressing Tires?!?

Maybe it's just the angle or the sun, but would you say WG Black Diamond Tire Gel has a low gloss, satin sheen similar to OptiBond?

    Back to Basics..

I use the Meg's mitt. Inexpensive yet good quality and doesn't swirl the paint. I use it with a two bucket wash with Meg's Gold Class and when doing a rinseless with ONR.

    Cheap hidden gems of detailing?

Stoner Invisible Glass. The best glass cleaner out there, $6. Duragloss Aquawax. Great shine, great beading, too easy to use, smells great, $8.99 for 22 oz.

    Optimum spray polish/compound are INCREDIBLE!

Recently tried out the Spray Compound on a 5.5" orange flat pad to take out a nasty door scratch on my brother's girlfriend's Jeep Commander. It was deep so I couldn't get it completely out but it knocked it down enough that it's hard to see. I noticed a bit of hazing afterwards so I wiped down...

I am now an OPC believer

I've never used Amazing Roll-Off but for wheel and tire cleaning OPC is fantastic. I used it for the first time a few days ago with a short handle, long-bristled wheel/tire/fender brush and the dirt just came pouring off. Spray on full strength, agitate lightly, hose off, crack open a beer for a...

    your favorite QD

ONR QD. For me the purpose of a QD is to remove light dust and fingerprints so cleaning ability is much more important than shine and slickness.

    Developing New Polishes...Input from AGO

I'd like to see a 2 in 1 swirl remover/cleaner that doesn't have any fillers, wax or sealant in it. If possible, formulate your products so that they won't separate when frozen. It'll allow us living in northern climates to leave everything outside in the garage instead of having to bring them...

    Mixing Products (polishes/compounds) ??

Back on topic, I think Optimum has actually stated that mixing 70% PoliSeal with 30% Polish II adds more cut to the PoliSeal. I haven't personally tried this but I'm sure others have.

    ** 2011 Rolls Royce Ghost **

Serious question - what the heck do you use to clean and protect wood inside of a car? I imagine on a Rolls Royce it's not some fake plastic stuff.

    Meg's D151 vs Meg's #105 vs XMT #4

Another fantastic light polish that I can recommend is Optimum Poli-Seal. It has some minor swirl correcting abilities along with cleaners and even leaves a layer of protection. It also has a long work time, doesn't dust and doesn't smell terrible. For a car that only needs or an owner that only...
