need tips on being lazy (foam gun?)

With the dial n spray, you can adjust the amount of soap being sprayed on. You can have almost none, or a lot. That's one of the reasons I like it, and it's cheap. If you use a soap with wax in it, I don't think it's going to be much of an issue.

So Mike Phillips, you're getting married???

Congrats Mike, I wish both of you the best.

    Have to vent - depressed

I wish I had your "problems". It's funny how we always think of what we don't have, instead of what we do have. I'm sure you have it better than a lot of people. Keep your chin up, no reason to be depressed. Being homeless is reason to be depressed.

    Man...I'm In The Wrong Business!!!

People should go to jail for damaging someone else's car. It's already happened to me 4 times since I got my ride in late march, and I'm pissed off as hell. Just because they don't care about their car, they think it's OK to fling open their door without regard. God help them if I ever catch...

need tips on being lazy (foam gun?)

Once I got my car swirl free and sealed, I've been using the Ortho Dial n Spray. ($10 at wally world or home depot) I consider it a poor man's foam gun. If you use a high foaming soap such as Rain X car soap, it actually works pretty good. And the dial on the sprayer allows you to control how...

    Admitting you have a problem!

I would probably be addicted if my "day job" paid more and I could detail my car as a hobby. But now that I am trying to go professional, I'm thinking of detailing in different terms. I only want to buy what I need, to keep costs down. I really don't even want to work on my car as much as I...

Do I go for it or not yet?

You live in Georgia, right? How is it close to winter?? I live in northern GA, and it's really only "cold" here for 4-6 weeks. (unless you have a different idea of what cold is) People get their cars detailed almost all year round in the south. If you lived up north, then that's a different story.

    Using customer's electric and water

Same here. I just don't have the finances right now to get even a small trailer with water and power. Also, my credit is shot to hell, so I can't even finance one. Guess I'll have to save up.

Starting out with detailing & my website

I'm sure there are many variables involved in pricing. I am a beginning professional myself, and don't claim to have all the answers. I only said what I said based on what I see others charging. One thing I do know, is you'll be hard pressed to get customers to pay $120 for an exterior wash and...

Starting out with detailing & my website

I don't mean to make your corn flakes soggy, but after looking at your detailing services, don't you think $120 is a bit too much for a basic wash & wax? (just exterior) The average person can get that done at the local mexican car wash for $30. The thing that separates a true pro detailer is...

Starting out with detailing & my website

I don't think that's really necessary. I thought about it, but detailing is hard work and long hours. If you were going to do free jobs, I would do family members/friends cars as a favor. (maybe in exchange for a nice dinner/drinks?) You will get tons of different answers as to what wax works...

Share your best business card design tip?

Why not? They actually had a great design that was eye catching. The general public isn't going to know where it came from. Plus, like I said, it looks pretty good. Everyone seems to like it. And I like how you can take the general design and have hats, t-shirts, signs, address labels made on...

Nevermind, I just went to YP and signed up for free. Can't hurt I guess as long as it's free.

Using AdWords to advertise detail business?

Didn't mean to go off like that, but after a couple drinks the thought of wasting $200 a month and the possibility of wasting more got me pissed off. Btw, how do you get free yellow pages?

Wow. Thanks for posting that. I'll definitely watch out for shady characters like that. Glad you got everything sorted though.

    Customer service A+

I'm sorry, but spending 20% more at a grocery store doesn't cut it with me. I've found customer service at Kroger just as good or better than publix. If you're rich and it gives you a sense of peace, by all means keep shopping there. I'll continue to save tons of money and get good customer service.

Using AdWords to advertise detail business?

F that. sounds like BS. You guys are spending money you aren't gonna get back. Google makes the money, not you. Because 1000's of prospective businesses pay the cash and do nothing. Google laughs all the way to the bank. I can't believe people fall for this stuff. Btw, I paid $200 a month for...
