What did you do today non-detailing related?

Got the heads on my Mustang rebuilt and slowly going back together today. Oh, and flushed the heater core while it was apart. Got some nice brown stuff and debris out. Hopefully that helps with the heat. Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk

What did you do today non-detailing related?

Did some tachometer calibrating today. Bought a cheap signal generator and wanted to verify the frequency was right so I connected my PC based oscilloscope. Frequencies were off by a little bit, but not bad. I used the o-scope readings to set the tach. With my stock mustang tach, there is one...

What did you do today non-detailing related?

Pulled heads off my 5.0 yesterday. I'm going to go through the heads and probably bring them to a shop for full rebuild. Been dealing with a misfire which I think is due to poor valve sealing. Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk

    what's your weather currently like?

It's stupid. (St. Paul, MN) 2 weeks ago it was close to 70F and over last 2 day we've received about 7" of snow and still coming down. Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk

The Post a Picture of Your Ride as it Sits Thread

Mustang came home from storage yesterday so I can tackle a few things this week while I'm off work. Crappy part is we are under Winter Storm Warning and my Edge has to sit outside. The apron from our garage is just barely long enough to to park it sideways off the street. It's hard to see in the...

    what's your weather currently like?

Ufda as we say in MN. We have 0 snow on the ground, it's 47 degrees and partly sunny. Par for the course in MN this winter....but apparently that's going to change this weekend. We're in for potentially more snow in the next week than we've had all winter. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I was planning to...

I was going to say it was a Gallant VR4 (or is that just a different name for same car?).

Gloss black IROC-Z attacked by a rotary..

Oh, that I know. It was ~10yrs old when I bought it and I'm pretty sure it went through every MN winter since new. As they say, it was ridden hard and put away wet. I should have known better when the used car dealer put up a huge stink about letting my mom take it for a test drive because the...

Gloss black IROC-Z attacked by a rotary..

Interesting, I didn't know that. Mine was still a POS.

Gloss black IROC-Z attacked by a rotary..

Nice job. My first car was an 87 IROC w/ 350. Biggest POS. I was a dumb 16yr old and all I thought was "Big V8, good." Transmission went out about a month after I bought it, suspension was completely worn out, engine rarely ran good, was missing rear sway bar., tires were trash.....and the...

What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

After 10 years (and 1 day), I finally decided to polish the 'piano scratch' plastic on my 14 Explorer. This is one of the back C pillars. I did 2 steps on the 2 rear and I just hit all the other places with just polish. Even just the polish made a noticeable difference. Pairs of pictures...

what's the last car care/detailing video you've just watched?

That handheld cordless blower has me very intrigued. I use an old, corded leaf blower which works fine, but bulky and sucks to deal with the cord.

Final Step of Machine Wheel Lip Repair

I was also going to say try a scotchbright pad, just not sure which one. Found this on a Google search so take it for what that's worth. As usual, start with the least aggressive and work from there. SCOTCHBRITE GRIT CHART 3M Scotch Brite Nylon Pads: 7445 - White pad, called Light Duty...

GeoMet, GeoSpec, Element3, etc. Coated Rotors Break-In

I installed Raybestos E3 rotors on my Explorer with Wagner OEx pads a few months back. Basically all I did was take it around the block and used the brakes a few times, that was it. My wife has been driving it and I've driven it a few times since (couple 1000 miles) and they feel good and...

Rinseless wash media: Sponge vs. Mitt

Not specifically pretreatment, but when I do rineless it's usually in the winter and I hit the DIY 2 blocks away to spray off all the heavy stuff before rinseless in garage to remove the remaining film. Yeah, I'm sure the 5 towels is overkill with that method, but better safe than sorry...

Rinseless wash media: Sponge vs. Mitt

I know this wasn't an option, but I do the 5 towel method. Each towel gets used 1 time for a section and placed in discard bucket. Only need 1-1.5 gallon of wash mix since dirty towels do not go back in. Roof+windows Hood+front fenders 1 each for 2 sides Back Total of 5.

    what's your weather currently like?

To continue my post from a few days ago, we had 2 record highs this week. Yesterday was 55F, which is 30 degrees above normal high. Odd to be watching my daughter downhill slalom race and just be wearing a sweatshirt. The only snow around is on the ski hill. 2 weeks ago I had 3+ layers on just...

What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

Gave zee 'ole Fords a wash. Spray off at the local DIY and rinseless to get the film off. The Explorer hadn't been washed in a long time (couple months) and the Edge just got a spray off last weekend, but it's been warm and wet all week, so it was yucky. A before photo of the Edge in the wash...

    what's your weather currently like?

MN weather this winter has been weird. Snow lovers are very disappointed. Warm and very little snow for the majority of it. Jan 12-20 was cold but other than than we've been above average for most of the winter. Our normal highs in winter are about 25F and for the next week+ we'll have highs...

What did you do today non-detailing related?

My (12yr old) daughter has really gotten into downhill skiing over the last year and joined the school ski team so I figured I'd make the stand so we can do some maintenance at home during the season. DIY ski/snowboard stand for waxing/sharpening. Less than $15 all in. Just need bungee cords to...
