    Headlight Restoration-new UV sealant idea

Re: How to prevent runs I tried your application method out today, following your instructions exactly, and it worked PERFECTLY. It was the easiest spar application I've ever done, and it was perfect on the first attempt. The only thing I did differently was that I did not follow up with the...

Has Meguiar's discontinued their 3" sanding discs?

Yeah, Autogeek has them in stock, and I haven't heard anything about them being discontinued or anything like that. I just couldn't find them on Meguiar's website where they list all their products, so I figured I'd ask and see if they had recently announced that they were discontinuing them. If...

Has Meguiar's discontinued their 3" sanding discs?

I was just on Meguiar's website, and I can't find their sanding discs listed in any of their products pages. I found the unigrit sheets and sanding blocks, but not the discs. Does anybody know if they've quit making them? I love their unigrit papers. NOTHING else comes close to them. They cut...

When you say you restripped it all the way down, do you mean you stripped off the spar that you had just applied, then you coated the whole lens with spar (not sanding off the OEM clear coat that was in good condition) or did you end up having to sand off the OEM clear coat that was in good...

Where do you dispose of you water extractor water/ how do you clean the inside stinch!

My tank holds 2 gallons and I have to empty it at least twice on every car I do, especially when I have to extract floor mats. If you mount the extractor where it can't move, I would suggest some kind of mounting system that still allows you to easily remove it if you want to.

    Headlight Restoration-new UV sealant idea

Very good info. I agree that glass or metal is best for storing a premix. I previously had a problem where I stored just the spar (not mixed yet) in a small, amber colored vitamin bottle. I washed the bottle thoroughly before storing the spar, but I don't think that I allowed it to fully dry...

Where do you dispose of you water extractor water/ how do you clean the inside stinch!

I dispose of the water in the grass. Does anybody else do it differently? I empty it as soon as I'm done using it, and always rinse out the waste tank with the water hose a couple of times after I'm done extracting.

Great info. 1. Have you had any problems with the spar/OMS mixture degrading the plastic bottles? I recently used a red Solo brand cup for mixing, and a couple of hours later, when I went to throw the cup in the dumpster, I found that the mixture had eaten through and destroyed the cup. 2...

Ray, do you wipe with straight 91% IPA? I assume that cutting it with water to get a lower IPA concentration (like we typically use on paint) would be counter productive.

Re: How to prevent runs Spar application has been giving me fits lately. I first tried it back in the Spring. It worked great when the temps were in the low 80's, but now that we're right around 100 degrees, it's drying too fast on me. You're definitely right about having to apply it to the...

Cleaning leaves and grass out of MF towels?

This is so frustrating. I just got a brand new set of microfibers in. I used them on one job, working outside, underneath some trees. I'm always very careful to not drop them on the ground, but when I got home, I've found bits of grass and leaves in them. The leaves must've fallen out of the...

HELP. Did headlights and Spar is cloudy

Ray- Thank you for your advice. I've read a big chunk of the spar thread in the past, and your posts always stand out. It's pretty obvious that you've got a lot of technical knowledge about true professional headlight restoration, and the real world experience to go along with that knowledge...

Thanks. Unfortunately, I don't have any OPC. I've read through a lot of that thread, but at 97 pages long, that thread is massive!

    Removing sap from paint?

For the paint and glass, I'd use mineral spirits. I love the stuff for getting off road tar (Thanks for the tip, BobbyG!) MS can also be used on the trim, but would be concerned about it turning trim chalky and faded. I wouldn't use MS on the rubber seals. I'd be concerned about it eating them up.

pinstripe removed, now I got an outline?

I removed a pin stripe, well not really a pin stripe but a long pin stripe sticker shaped like barbed wire. Now there's an outline left from where all the other paint around it has faded. It's on a 10 year old neglected work truck that's never been cared for. Will compounding/polishing eliminate...

How to buff with a 3 inch pad on a DA?

I've got a correction job Sunday, and due to their location, I'm going to have to remove some defects using a 3 in pad on my DA. I always feel weird buffing with a tiny pad on my big Griot's. The machine seems way too powerful for such a small pad, and if I use it at speed 5 or 6, it feels like...
