Lake Country Variable Contact (VC) Pads?

I'm in the process of "modernizing" my detailing equipment and products. I came across a set of 6-inch Lake Country Variable Contact Pads (cutting, polishing, waxing) that I bought when I first started using a Porter Cable 7424. These were the recommended pads at the time. Over the years I...

Lake Country backing plate with Meg's microfiber discs?

Can I use a Lake Country 3-inch backing plate with the Meguiar's 3-inch microfiber discs or do I need to order the rather pricey Meg's 3-inch backing plate? I don't plan to use the 3-inch discs very often.

    3-inch Meg's Micofiber Discs on a 7424?

Another question related to the 3-inch Meg's discs....Can I use a Lake Country 3-inch backing plate or do I need to order the rather pricy Meg's 3-inch backing plate? I don't plan to use the 3-inch discs very often.

    3-inch Meg's Micofiber Discs on a 7424?

How effective/safe are Meg's Microfiber cutting discs on a 7424. I'd plan to use them for only spot repair. If using Meg's Correction Compound what is the suggested speed setting?

Need to update my first gen Porter cable 7424

I'll check them out. Any suggestions on the microfiber pads?

Need to update my first gen Porter cable 7424

Might make more sense just to buy a new 5.5 foam cutting pad and a 5.5 microfiber cutting pad for when there are those times I need to get more bite for correction...as in light scratches etc. I rarely even need to use polish. Both of our trucks are white and are garaged every night. One is...

Need to update my first gen Porter cable 7424

Bobby G. I only now found out that I should be using the smaller pads on this pc. Duh. I have a bunch of six inch pads but several are finally wearing out after nine or ten years of use. I'll keep my present machine until the bearings fall out. I also have a Makita rotary buffer, but I...

Need to update my first gen Porter cable 7424

I've reviewed Mike's article on updating a 7424...How to MAXIMIZE your DA Polisher. It's time to update my ten year old pc that is still working just fine. I already use a five inch backing plate. Now about the pads. I'm thinking 5.5 inch Lake Country flat Yellow, Orange, and White pads. I...

    Trizact vs. Meguiar's Unigrit?

Is there any difference in the quality, effectiveness, overall results and ease of use in these two products ...Trizact and Meguiar's Unigrit...both the paper and the sanding discs?

    Removing minor dieback

This truck is white so marring is more difficult to see. However, I used the maroon pads on a PC when I had my black trucks. Never any marring. However, I only used the maroon pad for serious corrections. Once I took out 2000 grit sanding marks on one of the black trucks using a PC with the...

    Removing minor dieback

The Meguiar's maroon cutting pad on my PC and Meguiar's Ultimate Compound "got-r-done". I had no marring that I could see, but I still followed up with a polishing pad and Ultimate Polish. Then a coat of Ultimate Wax. I'm not quite sure of what caused the minor paint problem but this...

    Removing minor dieback

Thanks for the suggestion. It may take a week to find that orange pad. I haven't used it for a while....no reason to.

    Removing minor dieback

One more thing. With Meguiar's Ultimate compound should I go ahead and use my Meguiar's maroon cutting pad or wait and order an Optimum or Meguiar's microfiber cutting pad/disc? Might as well try for what might be most effective. What the heck, this isn't "rocket science", is it? :D Tom

    Removing minor dieback

Thanks, Mike. I'll try to get at it soon. It's not even close to being as bad as the pics you posted Tom

    Removing minor dieback

According the the body shop owner and all of the paint troubleshooting websites, the "fix" is pretty much the same as orange peel...sand and/or compound and polish. If severe, sand and repaint. In my case the dieback is far for severe.

    Removing minor dieback

The condition is so minor that a camera will not pick it up. Not only am I old, I'm a bit "obsessive" too. :D

    Removing minor dieback

Sometime in the next day or two I plan to "get at it". I know that "least aggressive" is best, but the clearcoat has been on the truck for three months. I'm thinking about using Meguiar's maroon cutting pad with Meguiar's Ultimate Compound and then follow up with Meguiar's Ultimate Polish on a...

    Removing minor dieback

Yep, that's it. The shop owner thinks the temperature in the booth might have been off just bit...sort of funky weather when the painting was done. This is a a "state of the art shop" with well trained techs. The condition is most certainly not bad enough to justify more paintwork. I can only...

    Removing minor dieback

The hood on my white Ram was recenty repaired and repainted. The repair involved a small dent in a corner of the hood. The repair was made and base coat was blended into the factory paint....a very good job on this part of the repair. The whole hood was then cleared using a "coat and a half...
