Oops, I made a mistake How you can learn from me

Mine was a BMW, can't remember year or model, it's been a few years back. I saw a scratch on the hood and tried some light wet sanding...disaster. The paint was not original and was a poor respray. I examined the rest of the car very carefully, I saw where other detailers burned the paint. I...

Thanks, man. I thought it would be something like that but, considering the cost, I wanted another opinion.

    Pinnacle Black Label Diamond Question

I've been wanting to try this product out and now it's on sale but I'm not sure what to order and I'd like a little help. What is the difference between the, "Pinnacle Black Label Diamond Surface Coating" product and the, "Pinnacle Black Label Diamond [Paint, Glass, Wheel] Coating products?

Am I a "Detailer" Can I refer to myself as a "Detailer"

Mike Phillips had a great posting not too long ago about detailers, one category being "enthusiasts"; but right now it's midnight, I'm tired and I can't find it. Anyone with a bucket of soap and a can of wax can claim to be a detailer. In my mind, a professional detailer is less about what's on...

    Working at a dealership

You work for them; it's their game, it's their rules...and you're the new guy. My opinion, see what you learn about running a business: the good, the bad, and the ugly. Maybe you build your own clientele.

    Jeep Wrangler Hardtops

To those who own or detail Jeep Wranglers with removable hard tops, how easy or hard is it to keep those things looking good? Do they oxidize easily or at all? To keep those hard tops looking new, what product(s) do you use?

    Some questions about waxing...

A wax cleaner should not hurt the clear coat. Whether or not the jeep has been waxed. Wash the hood, put a piece of tape down the middle, wax one side of the hood only, poor water on the hood. You should be able to tell.

    Claying and Glaze Question

I was watching a Chemical Guys link that was posted on FB and the guy giving the presentation made a couple of interesting comments. 1) The claying removes the contaminants from the scratches of the paint (6:26-6:36 in the video) and 2) After claying the paint a glaze should be applied to fill...

    Microfiber Cutting Pads

You folks using the microfiber pads, are you using the products the Meguiar's suggests (D30016 correction compound & D30216 Microfiber Polish) or are you using something else?

    Pad questions

It's time for me to order some new pads and I'm looking for some advice from you folks. I've been detailing for about 6 years and I'm an enthusiast meaning, I don't do this for a living. I use a Porter Cable 7424 XP and I've been using Lake Country CCS & Chemical Guys Hex-Logic pads. I'd prefer...

Do you use the 8 sides of the towel with rinseless Garry Dean's method?

I pre-soak my microfiber towels also and I use two kind of towels: the longer nap (Super Soft Deluxe Blue Microfiber Towels, microfiber detailing towels, buffing towels, micro fiber towel, detail cloth) I use for the panels of the car, the shorter nap (Blue All Purpose Microfiber Towels 6 Pack...

Detailing a brand new car. Are these the correct steps to take and items to use?

I've detailed half a dozen cars recently and here's what I've done; great results. I wash with ONR, Iron-X, Pinnacle clay bar with ONR @ lubricant dilution, maybe Optimum II on black cars, wax/seal. A new car really shouldn't need compounding, I haven't found the need to polish white and lighter...

    Calling mike phillps

Here are the things that Mike has said that really stayed with me: polishing- go slower; removing polish/ wax- less pressure. This he didn't say but demonstrated: if he can get on the floor to clean, polish, wax...so can I.

    2005 Black Altima

The challenge in this detail is that clearcoat failure has already started. I know that for many, detailing a car is a luxury but in reality, it's not. Cars are expensive and people take them in every 5,000 miles or so to get the oil changed, etc and it's reasonable to have the clearcoat of a...
