Have you ever gotten hurt detailing?

Minor cuts & bruises. Larger cut on hand from a bent piece of trim around a well (reached in to clean with brush and it sliced me). Feel off stool, hit head, almost blacked out. Few sore ankles from twisting injuries. I've been pretty fortunate despite many opportunities to get hurt badly...

how to unlock car with no keys

One thing I didn't know is you can go to the local dealer and have a key made from the vin number. I recently locked my keys in my work truck. They were the only set. It was an old truck so I tried to move the unlock switch with my bucket handle but couldn't get it to move. I was close to...

    Rinseless Wash

I use a chenille mf mitt. Dunk in bucket wipe panel using little to no pressure. How much I clean with each dunk depends on how dirty. I dunk mitt in bucket then I do some more using the other side of the mitt. I tend to do it that way so that the mitt gets rinsed off twice before the used...

    Organizing vs. Detailing

I like to tidy things up but I try not to do too much especially if I'm not being paid. I see things on a daily basis that bug the crap out of me but apparently the customer isn't bothered by them. Years ago I cleaned a conversion van that had a huge place on the dash to store stuff. You...

    Anyone use Soft Scrub?

I'll have to try it some time. I've had some paint transfer that was just horrible to remove, times like that I'd be willing to try soft scrub.

Help! Gum on a Leather Seat.....

I was going to suggest WD40 as I've pull gum out of my kids jean pockets with it a few time. My concern would be that it would stain the seat. I never had a problem with the jeans though. Maybe using a qtip with wd40 and just wiping the gum.

    water waste

Yes you use water but not very much. I started using rinseless washes here and there and year ago. More I used it the more that I like it. Around the first of the year I switch over to rinseless for all of my mobile work (one or two cars a week I will pressure wash first to get mud off)...

    Why do you use ONR?

I use ONR in my mobile business. After testing it for almost a year I decided to use it for just about every vehicle that I clean. I think the cars look better than when I did a normal wash. I like not filling my tank up everyday. I like that it doesn't leave the parking lots very wet. I...

    What Do U Use??

I use a rubbermaid folding step ladder from Walmart. I think it's around $15. You can see a picture on Officedepot website item 229669. I replaced my first one that I used for 5 years or so in my mobile business. It still works fine but had some damage from backing into it with my truck a...

My husband is mad I have stolen his garage space

Get your own shelf, make sure it's much nicer than the existing shelf units. Maybe something with glass and mirrors. Then mount some small spotlights to showcase your goods.

What to do with shipping peanuts

If you have a free cycle in your area just offer them on that. Someone will probably pick them up before the days out.

starting up an Auto Detailing service

Ideally we'd all start up perfectly. I started mobile cleaning 17 years ago on a suggestion from my mother. I cleaned everyone in the families cars and she said a guy at her work cleaned on the weekend and was making $150 a day. Heck I was only making $400 a week so that seemed like a good...

    How I wash vehicles (Time-Saving)

I like the idea of doing the windows as you do the doors. I've messed with that before but not since using ONR. I'm also looking into a long enough hose to set my vacuum by the rear bumper and reach the whole car. Need a remote controled vacuum and generator then you could save wear and tear...

    Technique: Pet Hair Removal

I'll have to get the anti static stuff to try it out. Moistening the hair definately helps. I use a damp PVA sponge to pull the hair into piles. The rubber gloves would be nice for the tight areas and wouldn't rip like surgical gloves tend to.

    be careful of polishing scratches!

I'm just guessing here but since the scratch was from hitting a trashcan possibly the paint was weakened (minor cracks) around the scratch.

Is clay use something a beginner can do?

Clay is one of those products that I feel anyone can use with some caution. I'd recommend using a soft clay. Although there are many substitutions for "clay lube". I'd stick with using a product that is specifically designed for clay lubrications until you feel comfortable. Although clay...

    Review : Meguiars Brushes

That interior brush is my all time favorite interior brush. I use it as a tire brush too, mainly on whitewalls or letters.

    Cracks and Crevices

Many of the Big Lots have reduced prices on the Meguiar Brushes. Reduced further than the normal Big Lots reduction. The slide lock and interior brush that were normally $2.99 at Big Lots (half off manufacturer I believe) are $1.50. Not all of the Big Lots have them reduced though. I've got...

    NOT working today.....

Last two days have been cold here. I start almost every day at 7:00. I think it's been in the upper 20's both days when I started. Even heating the water I still get a little refreeze. Anyone ever try a heater for mobile cleaning? I figure a forced air kerosene heater and some ONR should...

    Some questions about customers...

Figure out how much an hour you would like to make. Decide what services you want to do and or capable of doing. Get a general idea of what other services in the area are charging. With any luck hourly rate x hours spent < competition price When starting out especially if competition is high...
