    Best One Stepper?

I have been using Griot's One Step Sealant via GG orange pads and PC for years. Applies and removes like a dream, smells great and is very durable. Today I used Meg's D151 for the first time. My test subject was a moderately swirled Nissan Murano, copper in color. I used it several ways, Makita...

    Polishing aluminum?

If the truck is newer and the metal is in good shape, the Flex should be fine. Use a cutting pad, and again clean up with a finishing pad or by hand. Figuring out what to charge is a challenge itself. You could give a ballpark estimate based on a minimum amount of time, with a trigger to bump up...

    Polishing aluminum?

Here's a link to a job I did recently. http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/show-n-shine/26490-2007-peterbilt-379-tow-truck.html Wool pads and any commercially available metal polish will work. You can finish up with a foam pad or by hand, as the wool will leave swirls. The wheels can be done by...

    Serving the masses

Great story Dave, and well written also. I echo your sentiments, I too am trying to achieve a balance with what I'm capable of and what a customer expects and understands. I am beginning for the first time to offer a "basic"or "mini" detail, as there seems to be quite a market for it. I am so...

    polishing metal....by the yard

AG has Wolfgang metal polish that works very well. I've used many other liquid polishes with success as well. M205 won't do much if anything to metal. Get several wool pads and a lot of towels, run your rotary at 1-1500rpm and prepare to get dirty and tired! They cake up fast, and once the...

    Mirror Detailing - Red Eclipse

I love that purple foamed wool. I would like to try the Menz SIP, I've been finishing with M205 via white or gray CCS, or Griot's polishes and pads via PC. Looks great, nice work!

    What claybar is everyone using?

Griot's, for 7 years, with ONR as lube. The GG formula has changed over the years,(stickier) and latex gloves help keep the residue off my hands.

    Your favorite interior protectant?

Meg's 40 is my #1 choice. I use Stoner Trim Shine on production work, and customers always react well. It's super fast and easy to use, but I don't use it on the high end stuff.

Mercury Marauder - black in the wrong hands

It was a challenge, I don't rush, but I am extremely methodical, and I always work with a sense of urgency. I washed the car the night before so it was completely dry in the AM, and I just hit it hard. And Adam, go get yourself a rotary and start practicing. I started using my Porter Cable in...

    Showing off my new toy

Very nice! I had several of these cars in the mid 90's and I had a lot of fun with them. What are you running for gears? That may have 2:73's or higher with an open diff. A set of 3:73's or lower with limited slip out of a Monte SS or Grand National will make a huge difference. Good luck!

Mercury Marauder - black in the wrong hands

I am thankful and humbled by everybody's kind words. This is only my second posting and I feel very welcomed! As somebody else recently pointed out, I can now check off my accomplishment list a commendation by the legendary Mr. Phillips. Thanks Mike, that is a huge confidence booster, and you...

Hello, that job was for a good friend, and the price reflected that. It's hard to nail down a price because the time involved can vary. $5-800 is ball park though for a big truck.

Mercury Marauder - black in the wrong hands

Unfortunately I don't yet have an expansive selection of pads. I have most of the LC CCS foam pads, various wool pads, and the purple foamed wool. After trying on test areas all the aggressive pads I had, including the yellow CCS, the purple had the best results with the least amount of marring...

    2007 Peterbilt 379 Tow Truck

Thank you! That backing plate came from the local auto body supply shop, I use it when I polish aluminum so I don't contaminate and stain my LC/AG BP's. I have no idea what that pad is, it was given to me by an old timer friend who only uses waffle pads now, but it works great on metal. I have...

Mercury Marauder - black in the wrong hands

Here's an example of what not to do. This car had gone into a body shop for some moderate collision repair, and the owner had a few extra panels beyond the damage repainted. The body and paint process seemed to go fairly well, I would say average for black. What followed was disastarous. The...

    2007 Peterbilt 379 Tow Truck

Thank you everybody for the comments, this is my first posting of my work on this site. @Adam -O.C. Total time was just under 30 hours, done by myself in two days. A huge excercise in endurance, and I did not have my A-game towards the end. @Steven - This truck is kept in remarkably excellent...

    2007 Peterbilt 379 Tow Truck

Quite an ambitious project. The owner keeps the condition very nice, frequently waxing with Collinite or Mother's. The paint had never been polished until now. Many of these heavy wreckers are customized with flashy paint and graphics, but I prefer the classic, timeless and understated look that...

How long should it take for one person....

Agreed on the 'people that wash cars'. Unfortunately there is a market out there for them. Recently I had an older gentleman in a late model Navigator start chatting me up in a parking lot next to my black Suburban which had just been waxed. When I answered his question about how much I charged...
