Make a mark on the backing plate (or use a piece of tape if you don't want to mark your backing plate), so you can see how fast it is actually spinning. Press down hard enough so that it revolves around 1 to 3 times per second. That's just a ballpark, but easier for you to judge than pressure.

If you put a baggie over your hand and then draw your hand over the surface, palm down, can you feel anything with your fingertips, or is it glass smooth?

Try IP and an Orange pad. Just work a little area. Tape it off, so you can compare to the adjacent area. Are they mostly on your hood, or all over? Are there any on vertical surfaces?

If you are in business, don't skimp on your equipment. Over the period of time you will have it, is it worth saving $100 bucks? What is your time worth to finish a car in half the time? Wouldn't you make that up in one or two details?

FWIW, my Meg's water magnets are scratchy and my Cobra Waffle Weave Guzzlers are soft and fluffy--both have had the same amount of use/washing and drying in the dryer.

As noted in another thread, somebody side-swiped my rear quarter panel, but real issue is as follows: There is not enough damage to warrant a new quarterpanel, but they are going to make the repair, shoot just the area they have repaired with black (the car's color) then shoot the WHOLE panel...
