    Not just a C4 Corvette. A 1990 ZR1 gets pampered and coated!

Very nice! I love, love that paint color! What dilution of Hyper Dressing did you use for the engine bay? Thank you for sharing.

Pros: Does your detail include cleaning the engine compartment?

Stage I starts at $60.00 and takes 30 to 45 minutes. Stage II starts at $120.00 and takes 60 to 75 minutes. Stage III takes as long as needed and the price varies quite a bit - the most one has taken me was about 20 hours of labor, but that included polishing every piece of aluminum (including...

Pros: Does your detail include cleaning the engine compartment?

About 70% of my customers from car clubs ask for engine bay service. I have three packages for the engine compartment - one for maintenance, one that aims to make visible surfaces presentable and protected (for car shows) and one that is meant for owners whose engine bay is the primary focus of...

    Flex 3401 stopped working

Have you checked the brushes? My Griot's G15 had to have its brushes replaced after about six months of use in 2016. The Flex part number is 331880 and you can find it, as well as a how-to guide, on a couple different websites.

First time using us speed - dust

Did you use brand new pads? If they were used pads perhaps the dust you saw was from old residue from other abrasives. You could try to mist a couple light sprays of pad conditioner before you apply the product.

Drying towels: is the PFM by Griot's still the best?

I used one 16x16 PFM towel today to dry off a customer's Challenger after I rinseless washed it. I bring four 16x16 PFMs with me on mobile jobs and I leave the bigger one (the one that is 38 inches or so) at home 99% of the time. As far as I have experienced there's no way to improve on the...

    McKee’s 37

Agreed. I would love 32oz bottles for things like by Foaming Wheel Cleaner Gel, Tire and Rubber Rejuvinator and N-914.

Need a LIGHT polish to prep my paint for CanCoat

I know you mentioned that you don't want to use Meguiar's Ultimate Polish, but what about M205? I use it for the final polishing step before coatings and it works beautifully. I also use a mixture of N914, IPA and distilled water to remove most of the residue and then I'll do a couple...

    Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light

The directions say you can start to apply EXO immediately after CSL if you start on the same panel where you initially installed CSL. I've always waited an hour or three and so far there haven't been any perceivable adverse effects.

    Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light

I've done CSL once at a customer's house, but it was in a closed garage and closely mimicked my home setup at the time. I can say from experience that installing the coating in a garage (yours or your customer's) doesn't pose a problem at all. As long as you have bright and diffused light to see...

    Polishing Pad Conditioners

I've been using the McKee's pad conditioner since 2016. One or two sprays before you put a compound on the pad is all that I've ever needed, and after that it isn't necessary to use the conditioner again. Too much moisture on the pad will hamper its performance. I've never used a pad conditioner...

    What are you listening to...?

I've been on a big Stryper kick this whole year. I saw them in concert a couple weeks ago in Dallas and it got me even more pumped up about their music. Michael Sweet's vocals get better every year. YouTube

Initial Impressions of Mille vs Flex 3401

Thank you for the review and update. I'm still on the fence about the Rupes, but your input (and others in this thread) has me leaning toward sticking with my 3401. My next machine purchase will likely be the Flex XFE 7-12, even if I decide to try the Mille. Thanks again.

How much do you charge for a one-step exterior detail?

I start at $475 before the inspection for a regular-sized sedan. It takes six to eight hours depending on the size of the vehicle. My favorite combo is a Flex 3401, white LC Force pads and McKee's 360, or, if the paint is soft and allows it, M205 or Hyper Polish. I'm interested in trying Sonax...

Lake Country Hybrid Force Pads on Rupes Mille ?

Sometimes it feels like the 8mm throw is too much. On roofs, for example, it pulls and pushes on its own when I can't put enough weight on the head of the machine. The roof is where I find the Flex is most uncomfortable, but on long hoods it's sometimes not a fun experience either. It seems like...

Lake Country Hybrid Force Pads on Rupes Mille ?

I'm looking forward to hearing about your experience. I love using my Flex 3401 and Force pads, but the 5mm orbit of the Rupes tool has me thinking.

    Griots BOSS Foaming system. *NEW*

It seems like the new products are ready to use and don't require dilution, maybe to keep things more simple.

    Super slick QD/drying aid?

If you can get beyond the smell of vinegar, you may want to try McKee's 37 High Gloss Detail Spray. It's a "heavy" product and a little goes a long way. Their Trademark Extender Spray Wax is great too. The old BlackFire spray wax worked very well and I assume when they changed the labels that...

Wanting to try other car washes.

CarPro Reset is great. McKee's Xtreme Foam, Power Wash and Sio2 Auto Wash are great too. I oftentimes use CarPro Reset on the body and Optimum Car Wash on wheelwork. I keep forgetting to buy Meguiar's Hyper Wash.

Do I need insurance? Avoid legal issues?

Think of it this way - you GET to have insurance. You're in a situation to run your own business and earn income the way that you see fit. The way I would look at it is be thankful that you have the opportunity and embrace what is required (taxes, insurance, liability, these things aren't bad)...
