Lake Country ThinPro Foam Pad System

These ThinPro pads: How durable are they? Are they are easier to wash & dry by hand? Do you have to worry about the backingplate hitting other parts of the vehicle more so than thicker pads and causing horrific damage?

Do I Have The Necessary Equipment To Start Detailing As A Side Gig?

Few things here: People are recommending a wide assortment of pads & stock of pads for a reason: to properly polish a vehicle, you need several pads of every color (cutting/polishing capability). You need some experience with your PC long before you touch a paying customers car. Some people...

DIY LED Work Light (much better than halogen!)

That's funny...the toughest thing about having proper work lights is re-learning when to stop working a particular area, and it will also expose every bit of marring you leave behind...that you had absolutely no idea you were leaving. I do a lot of production buffing, and I still do it to this...

DIY LED Work Light (much better than halogen!)

Wow those looks great. I would love to switch, but HDX halogens 500x2 watt lights with stands are $34 at Depot. Is there a way to retro-fit just the LED units to the stands?

Any way to fix this on a tire? Quite a different problem...

It looks like curb rash that was probably hidden by dirt/grime/tire gel and he uncovered it by cleaning. Those scratches are almost too perfect in the 3 directions I see them running. Pick a small spot and maybe try some 2000 wet grit and see if you can soften the appearance. Otherwise, he...

M105 trick to minimize dusting & maximize work time

Good tips. Fortunately I have a lot of various lsp's to try. I can't tell you how many times an area called for M105 unless I wanted to spend an extra 30 minutes with what I had available for polish and made a giant mess within 20 seconds of working time. I've also found a drop or two of glaze...

M105 trick to minimize dusting & maximize work time

The primary issue is its locally available, for cheap. In dry heat, and my shop is extremely dry, the working time of 105 before it dusts is not even half a section pass. I can now get 3-4 section passes out of it without a dust pile and it's far easier to remove. I'm waiting on my order of...

M105 trick to minimize dusting & maximize work time

I love using M105 when the job calls for it. Unfortunately the majority of the cars I receive at my shop need this step. The only thing I've disliked about M105 has been the dusting and caking if you don't swap pads enough. While buffing a red Toyota, I got frustrated with the dust all over...

    DeWalt getting extremely hot

Used it tonight after wet sanding a hood and had no heat issues. Used a wool pad and was able to finish with my PC. Had no heat issues, used the same cord, outlet, etc. Don't know what the situation is now

    DeWalt getting extremely hot

I don't have an issue with the weight of the machine. I love the machine. Yes I'm using a huge extension cord, I don't know the gauge but it was over 70 bucks for a 25 foot cord because I bought the biggest gauge they had. You can't touch the cast at the head, nor can you touch the screws on...

    DeWalt getting extremely hot

My DeWalt is getting extremely hot. So hot that you can't touch anything but the grips. It'll also stay hot for 30-45 minutes after using it. It just won't cool down. I've always used compressed air to blow it out after using it, and it's always run warm, but never this hot. Am I looking at a...

The best thing I learned from Mike

I don't see the dealer eating the cost of a replacement truck when it could be sprayed in their booth @ cost for less than 1500. But on the customers side there are a ton of downsides to this. Orange peel, they won't mask properly and it will have heavy edges, overspray, most likely runs and...

The best thing I learned from Mike

What sucks is that this dealer will quick fix, they will barely prep it, barely mask off properly and shoot it with clear that will start peeling off in a year or two.

The best thing I learned from Mike

Why wouldn't you glaze it and at least make it look 10x better and not worry about removing any clear? That's absolutely horrific work the dealer did, but don't blame GM. They didn't do that. The dealer did.

    Scratch removal

He mentioned himself in his first post that he can barely catch it with his fingernail. Personally, on a brand new vehicle, since it's in a hard to reach spot, I could just soften the scratch appearance like you have and considering glazing it a few times and then seal/wax it. It really sucks...

Is there a mechanical advantage to applying wax or sealant?

Less product is used, no high spots, gloss always 'appears' deeper, less chance for marring. The less time a microfiber spends on your paint = the better. I haven't hand applied wax in 11 years. I helped the guys at my shop for about 30 seconds before I dropped a few F bombs and walked away. Lol

    Vandals - Spray paint

I've never seen spray paint that was so durable it was difficult to remove from a vehicle. Mineral spirits, goof off, etc should make it melt right in front of your eyes. The only time I've ever had stubborn spray paint was some that was left on a new Mercedes for 3 weeks because they were...

So basically it's like a fart? Some like the smell of others & some don't.

Problems with carpro reload, please help!

I would see how it works when you know it's going to be dry for a few days at the very least and see what happens with a hose test. If the product is truly good, I would suspect you have very acidic rain. I have acidic rain issues and I am lucky to get any longevity out of any wax or sealant.

    DA ticks?

CG creme glaze claims to have light polishing capability. I have used it on super soft hard to finish paint, IPA wipe and make sure it worked. I've had 2 vehicles recently that I could only get to finish with M105. insane, but a billion pad and polish combos would not finish it.
