Experimented with M105/MF cutting disc/GG DA...

Keep trying... :props: Read the KBM - Pad Priming and Supplemental Wetting Agents article, too. At this point in your polishing life, I think you'll understand and appreciate some of the stuff in it, especially the part about final polishing.

    Rotary Buffer Question

Oh, that's funny. I just saw the post above mine from Mike Phillips saying to use smaller pads... sorry Mike! We think alike on this... :props:

    Rotary Buffer Question

Someday, we'll have to meet at Meguiar's. I'll guide you along... you've proven yourself to be a loyal "paint polisher". Or, you could start with 4" pads, then eventually step up to 5", and so on. This will allow you to slowly get used to how the pad is affected by panel shape, user input...

    Meguiars Paint Reconditioning Cream D151

More on the subject: Do you mind if I chime in? I don't know everyone's polishing methods (downward pressure, buffer speed, diameter pad, etc), so bear with me if you've already tried this method. For both random-orbital and rotary application, it's best to switch to a fresh pad for...

    Meguiars Paint Reconditioning Cream D151

At this point I wanted to adjusted my polishing speed. To be fair, I figured that I should drop my speed when using the larger diameter W5000 pad. This was to adjust the velocity of the pad closer to the velocity of the PFW pad. I used the PFW pad at 1,800 rpm. Usable area was estimated to...

    Meguiars Paint Reconditioning Cream D151

This posts was taken from another forum. A long discussion about D151 and its potential cutting power. The thread is called Meg's D151. It can be found by searching meg's d151 110091. From that thread (post #54, 55, : Glad to give an opinion... thanks for contacting me weekendwarrior. A...

Roll Call - What's your real first name?

Micha el Phillip, esquire. :D This reminded me of an old drag racing story. As taken from National Dragster, Feb 12, 2010: Typically, the winner of a major event such as the NHRA Winternationals would be eager to see his or her name in print and to bask in the glory and adulation of friends...

Wet sanded fully, but still some orange peel

A micron is 1/1000 of a millimeter. A mil is 1/1000 of an inch. Two sheets of printer paper equals approximately: 5.0 to 5.5 mils or 127 to 139.7 microns Which is not an uncommon thickness reading of a new paint job. This includes primer, base coat, and clear.

Wet sanded fully, but still some orange peel

100% absolutely perfect advice. Certainly worth considering.

Wet sanded fully, but still some orange peel

You would have to find a way to support the paper for those areas, as mentioned previously here: Some guys simply fold the paper three or four times, and sand using the sandpaper itself as the backing. I never said it would be easy.... Some leveling can be accomplished through the polishing...

Wet sanded fully, but still some orange peel

The only way to be completely certain is to use a hard backing, such as a popsicle stick, or a piece of wood (something non-flexible or pliable), wrap a piece of sandpaper around it, and sand a spot. Use a super fine grade, so you won't have to spend a lot of effort re-polishing. I suspect...

Wet sanded fully, but still some orange peel

Barry, your mind runs as fast as your fingers type. Let me break this down in sections, and give my opinion that way. I hope we can agree to reserve the term leveling for those instances when we want to minimize the peak and valley variances of a paint surface. This way, discussions about...

Wet sanded fully, but still some orange peel

O-kay. Some diagrams that may help, and more discussion. This one compares a long block to a short and long stroke sander. If you want to see a clearer shot of it, I have a pdf version on my site. The type of backing material a sheet or disc features can also affect leveling. To be clear...

Wet sanded fully, but still some orange peel

Now we're talking.... THIS is a thread!!! Leveling in the sanding world means to minimize variances in the high and low spots of the sanded surface. The more level the surface, the more accurate a reflection will be. This is easy to see in a typical swimming pool. If there's nothing...

Wet sanded fully, but still some orange peel

Saw this thread, thought I'd add some stuff from anuther forum... pretty nice read, or at least I think it's good. Not trying to be keen or sly, just can't link. Anyway, here's some stuff I wrote. This does go to leveling the surface as opposed to smoothing, or refining. To follow... Im the MAN

Pros and cons of the Flex 3401 and Traditional DA, IMO....

I suppose trying is correct. More bp's and pads than DA's. High and mighty approach? Not at all. Equal and respectful approach.

Pros and cons of the Flex 3401 and Traditional DA, IMO....

Oh, okay. Like I said two posts ago... I would never make a statement (such as you did about me) that showed an obvious desire to make a guy seem incompetent, or look ridiculous, or be responsible for others actions. So, yeah, I took notice, but had no anger nor negative thought about what...
