    Fixing "dealer washed" Opti Coat

It sure is frustrating....the car was almost perfect before they "hand washed" it. Right now I have the original Porter Cable and a bunch of different pads. Ive corrected many a car, but for some reason my initial go at my G was an epic fail. *Something* was swirling all over it, I could...

    Fixing "dealer washed" Opti Coat

So yeah, dealer didnt quite listen when I said "DO NOT WASH". All the dirt and grime from the winter in CT was wiped around my black car, and now its swirl city. Luckily, at least MOST of the car was Opti Coated (Ive questioned some spots because they didnt bead/sheet like the others, but...

    New Product - Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0

Great, thanks. Going to hit the area with Megs 205 to hopefully clean up whats left, then re-coat (after washing the area with PowerClean and then regular car wash) In the meantime going to order the Optimum 3 pack sampler from AG so I can have small amounts to try out and maybe keep in the...

    New Product - Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0

Ahh my bad!! It didnt make sense to me because I knew OptiSeal was just a sealant. Ill see if I can pick up a sample of PoliSeal to try out. Any idea how "aggressive" one can get with PoliSeal on OptiCoat before the need to re-coat? I know the whole panel will need to be done if I go that...

    New Product - Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0

I dont have OptiSeal, but I *do* have OptiCoat........Im wondering if my time/money would be better spent roughing up the panel (along with polishing out the etching) and then reapplying OC. This is gonna be tough to keep up with if every little bird bomb does that much damage.

    New Product - Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0

Is it possible for bird bombs to etch OptiCoat? Just got hit with one at some point today, the car wasnt parked in the sun at all but it was pretty baked on. At home I hit it with pressurized water and most of it came off, but you can see some marking where it was. Hit that with OptiClean...

    New Product - Wheel Woolies!

I might give these a shot. But hats off to Nissan/Infiniti/Rays for using *black* paint on the inside of my wheels. It doesnt show the dirt nearly as much as if they were just clearcoated! Someday I might sand off the black but for now I like it.

    New Product - Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0

Finally got around to doing the test. Sprayed one side of the car with 3:1 PowerClean. Let it dwell for a minute or two while I setup the regular car wash stuff. Washed with a thick foam of Chem Guys Citrus Wash. After the wash I went back and the water sheeted off pretty darn well. Almost...

    Griot's Paint Prep question

I want to use Paint Prep to clean the surface of my paint to help determine where OptiCoat has bonded to it. I notice the instructions just say to let it dwell then wipe/wash it off.....should I be doing something after that as well? I basically want to make sure the surface of the paint has...

@Chris: what pad would I use with Megs 205 to "rough up" the panels before recoating with OptiCoat? I have Excel detail pads from forever ago, black (finish), blue (semi-finish), green (polish), yellow (light cut) and orange (cut), along with the Megs MF system.

    Meg's MF ?'s

I got some dusting but only when the pad really needed to be cleaned, and I had re-primed when I didnt need to. So to me it was just 2 indications I was using too much product. Cleaned the pad with compressed air and only primed once (adding 3 or 4 drops of product after each panel) and the...

    New Product - Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0

One (hopefully) final question: what pad to use with the Megs 205? I was thinking of using the pads from the microfiber kit, so it would be either the cutting pad or the finishing pad. Normally Id say start with the finishing pad but since there is no real way to tell if the coating is...

    New Product - Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0

Thanks. I might take some videos of most of the car and how it beads/sheets before I try a PowerClean wash to determine exactly which panels "need help". I might post them on here to see what others think.....I took at look at a lot of OptiCoat 2 videos on YouTube, and its interesting to see...

    New Product - Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0

Would a finishing polish, like Megs 205 suffice? Or would I be looking at more of a compounding like the microfiber correction compound, or Megs 105? Or something in between?

    New Product - Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0

I sprayed a portion of a few panels with 3:1 Power Clean, let it run/dwell for 3 minutes. Washed off with my wash mitt and normal soap. The result is....good question! In some areas it had no effect. In others the normal tight beading seemed to turn to "lifeless" sheeting but then the water...

Full strength or diluted? Currently have 3:1 in a spray bottle.

    New Product - Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0

Will give that a shot. Probably going to do one panel or maybe a 50/50 on the same panel. Any suggestions on using Power Clean to do the wash? Like how much to put in a foam gun to gaurantee its a "strong wash"? I also have Chem Guys citrus on hand, Im guessing that could be considered a...

    New Product - Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0

Yeah Ive used UPP (still have some of it, in fact) and immediately after OptiCoat application the paint felt very slick....not like UPP slick, but not "clean paint" grabby either. NOW it feels clean paint grabby like it should.

Yeah, I was more concerned with the initial smooth "normal" LSP type feel than what I feel now (grabby is what I was expecting from minute 1, so to speak) I was prepared for the non-wax type feel
