What are the products around for car detailing?

Knowing what to do, how to do it, and in what order is probably the most important factor. The "best" products won't help you. Most of detailing is putting in the effort, taking the time to do it right, and knowing which type of product to use, rather than the right brand. Sure, some products...

which sealant on my finger? hilarious...

Use a liquid bandage. You paint it on like touch up paint. Coat the wound and let it dry. Don't use chemicals like collinite or anything else on an open wound.

How to keep employees from stealing?

Like some others have said, interview thoroughly and do background checks. Maybe institute some sort of profit sharing so they feel invested in the business. Go over results with the employees.Tell them about revenue and expenses. Make them part of the business. Video monitoring is super cheap...

Post pics of your favorite road to drive

The Kancamangus highway is pretty nice. It winds through the white mountains in NH. http://www.kancamagushighway.com/maps/map_images/kancamagus_highway_map_1pc.jpg During bike week up in Laconia it gets very crowded. As for roads near me? There aren't many.

    Ipa

We aren't doing lab testing here. I don't honestly think it matters whether the mix is exactly 20%. If it's 15% or 30%, probably makes no difference. I use the Italian cooking method. Fill a spray bottle roughly 1/4 of the way with a 70% IPA solution, the rest with pure water. Works fine.

So, you're wife is on your @ss about the $$$ you spend on detailing supplies?

That's hilarious, I did the SAME exact thing on my shower stall over the weekend. I used a glass polishing pad with my PC and some Rain-X extreme clean. Then I used the same pad on the floor and tile walls with "Comet" powder. Maybe worth mentioning that I set aside this pad for household duty...

[Winter prep] Collinite 476s on the civic

The paint looks fantastic considering it's 18 years old and has probably never missed a day of work :)

How to clean and protect large plastic textured exterior panels?

Opti-coat worked nicely for me. I was doing the whole car anyway. It doesn't make the plastic look as deep glossy black as some other stuff, but it's got the durability to make up for it.

Tire Dressing applicator - what's a good material

I use an applicator that I found at Pep Boys. Looks like this:( not sure if it's THIS one or one like it) http://www.detailsupplyonline.com/images/contoured_tire_applicator.jpg I have never had an issues with them wearing out. I don't run a detailing shop though. Just a hobbyist. I probably...

One of the most filthiest jobs i have done...

2 hours is actually pretty impressive for a full detail, especially when the car is that dirty. You guys must have been hustling.

    Eagle One bucket free wash

Is this at all similar to the Eagle One Wipe and Shine? They have a waterless spray wash product out. I bought it for kicks just to see how it worked and it seemed to do a decent job if the car was only slightly dirty. This stuff:

See, here I thought I was the only lunatic. :)

Collinite 845 Surprise Winner in Auto Express Car Wheel Wax Test

I wonder why they didn't try the #496 ( Super Double Coat) instead? That should be more durable. I was uncertain which one to use strictly for durability, so I actually e-mailed Collinite about it. They responded that the 496 has more durability. The Liquid wax was easier to use.

Ever use your detailing skill on something other than a car?

A few months ago my wife asked me to clean the bathroom. I decided the shower stall needed some TLC. It's one of those typical glass stalls with the textured/fogged exterior surface. I broke out the DA buffer and some Rain-X Extreme Clean with a griot's garage glass polishing pad. It really...

    Detailing or Modeling Clay......You Decide

I love this sort of creative stuff. Finding alternate uses for things, creating a better mousetrap, etc. This post inspired me to do some additional research. I went to a local craft store and picked up some more Polymer Clay. I got two kinds, one soft and one regular. They also had firm clay...

    Polish (swirl removal) without claybar

I learned that the hard way. If you leave behind a nasty bit of debris you can end up with a tiny "pigtail" in the paint when you use your DA buffer. The tiny particle gets trapped in the pad and swirls around in a tiny circle as you go. I have done this to my own car once. Never again! :)

    yet another new guy

Looking forward to contributing. Have been into detailing since before I was old enough to drive. ( I'm 35 now). I have a detailing blog that I update in frequently as well. I just do it as a hobby for now. The blog is called "The Zen of Detailing". Not supposed to post links so if you care...
