I've heard some bad reviews on the snow soap that it does not show a reaction when on the paint because it's diluted. One person recommended to apply some of the snow soap directly onto the mitt and wash the car and got better results. You may want to try that.

I too went with a Rupes LHR15ES over the Flex 3401. I attended an Intro to Buffing and Polishing course here in Southern CA and got to try out the LHR21ES. I was surprised in how there was little vibration. Just remember that the key in using this machine is light pressure and slow arm movement.

Currently using the DP Xtreme Foam Formula and I highly recommend using that.

My Flex XC 3401 arrived today and I checked the fastener on the backing plate and it didn't take any effort at all to loosen up. I added a bit of oil on the felt side and tighten up the backing plate. The plate is 5.5in so I take it this is the latest version? Can't wait to use this bad boy.

DOH! I just sold my PC 7424 and bought a Flex last night from AG. Well.. at least there's a one year warranty and the backing plate replacements aren't too expensive.
