yeah i always soak mine in warm water prior to washing. although even without soaking never had any problems did you rinse it off and clean it before using it the first time?

That DA correction compound has my interest. so does the #101. but Europe only? how does that make sense? something to do with chemical compounds, ect... that make it not legal here?

the lip is aluminum. so you should probably use a APC to clean them and then polish them with one of the many power drill tools available. unless there is a clear coat of sorts on the lip it is probably machined
