    hard vs soft wax?

Dodo Juice goes to great lengths to define their waxes as either hard or soft. None of the other manufacturers of fine wax make such a distinction. From what I've read, it seams that hard wax goes on thinner but lasts longer and soft wax goes on thicker but doesn't last as long. Is all this a...

Sort of question, sort of rant.

Yea, last week I saw the fuzion 3 oz. mini on sale for $39.99. Since I wanted to try this, I ordered just that item. Shipping was $11.99! There is no question that standard shipping charges are way out of line. I know they ship a lot of liquids but much of their stuff can be shipped priority...

    removing wheels?

SO... as I was sitting on the garage floor this afternoon trying to clean my wheels... sticking the various brushes I have through the spokes, trying to reach behind the wheel, smashing my knuckles on the damn brake calipers, etc. etc... I was wondering if any of you professionals just put the...

    hand application of swirl removers?

Reading the product descriptions, I see that all of the swirl removers except the light cleansing lotions specify machine application. My wife's car has some light to, perhaps, intermediate swirling. If I can't get it out with just a cleansing lotion, can I get decent results with a more...

    paste wax shelf life?

This is all good news, thanks... I feel like a kid in a candy shop and want to try them all. :-)

    paste wax shelf life?

Assuming one avoids temperature extremes, what's a reasonable shelf life for most of these (rather expensive) paste waxes?... What happens when it goes out-of-date? do the ingredients separate? or does it just not work as well.

    Worst new car scent ever....

One of the first things that struck me about my new mercedes (c300) is that it had almost no smell at all. I ordered the full leather seats so that elliminates a good bit of vinyl but still, even the leather doesn't smell much. Good that they selected materials that don't have much...

How many cars have you owned?

In chronological order: 1966 Ford Mustang (first car, bought used in 70, much bondo, bent frame) 1973 VW Beetle (bought new for $1999, drove 2 years, sold for $2000 made a buck!) Then the Honda marathon: 1975 Civic (you could hear them rust) 1980 Civic (rust problem fixed) 1985 Civic...

Plastic Bag Test - Do You Really Want To Know?

SO...bmwgalore, are you saying that, perhaps, the plastic "catches" on the contaminants and mutes the normal paint irregularities, thus, effectively amplifying the contaminants to your nerves. Kinda like a hearing aid amplifies the sounds you want to hear while muting the background noise...

Plastic Bag Test - Do You Really Want To Know?

Can somebody explain to me the science behind the plastic bag test? How does the bag enable you to feel the dirt better than your bare hand? Always having been skeptical, I can't help but wonder that perhaps it works on some unknown principle and is a diabolical plot by clay manufacturers to...

Our forum hosts should send that young lady a case of clay! (Surely you have some that is close to the expiration date.)

Detailing for a non detailed person and some newbie questions

I think the more one gets interested in detailing, the more obsessed one gets with it. Now, I'm just amazed at how nice my car looks with sealant and wax. (Remember, I used to run my old car through the automatic wash maybe once or twice a year.) Its all relative.

Detailing for a non detailed person and some newbie questions

Remember that I am rather anti-detail but still want to keep a nice looking car. I've resolved myself to the fact that I can handle wash > sealant > wax a few times a year but wash > clay > polish > sealant > wax seems like a hell of a lot of work to me. The clay process looks time consuming in...

Detailing for a non detailed person and some newbie questions

I'm a detailing newbee also and, like you, have always been a "non-detailed" person. I would run the car through the car wash the spring and wash the winter dirt off of it. That was about it. Now that I'm "old", I bought myself a rather expensive car for my 60th birthday (Mercedes C300) and...

    coated leather, ... really?

Na, Bigbull, it's a c300 (4matic). I'm old and no longer "sporty" :-) Thanks everyone for all the great responses.

Yes, its really coated leather and not MB-Tex.

    coated leather, ... really?

Just an FYI, the car in question is a new mercedes c class, so I hope that it has at least a step above what has been described above as the cheapest leathers. I am a bit disappointed, however, it doesn't have the feel I expected as natural leather surface. Hope it grows on me over time.

    coated leather, ... really?

So, I bought an expensive car and paid extra for leather seating. Doing my research after the fact as usual, I discover that it is "coated leather". From what I read, 95% of all car leather these days is coated leather. That is, leather that has been surfaced with a polyurethane coating. SO...
