    How do they make money?

He wants you because he isn't happy with the quality of the $20... Don't compromise. Quality costs. To only go up $5 is a deal for him and his staff. Take a look at a few of the local tunnel washes for their prices. Find an option that is similar to what you offer. You then should be...

    Buisness name thoughts

Think carefully about whether any of your options could have a negative association. While Nu Image might sound good, it could be associated with Nu Finish. There is also the possiblity that Nu Finish could come after you for using their name. (My dad had an issue with Toys R Us for his name...

Was told by another coating company Gtechniq is gone?

Don't know about the panel wipe issue but I do know that Gtech stuff has been difficult to come by, reps have been let go and, based on a conversation I had recently with a supplier, it is impossible to get anyone on the phone. It seems to me they would want to maintain some momentum during...

    Bugs Bugs Bugs

I can't speak for all coatings but I know that Opti-Coat makes it easier to remove tar and is the only thing I have seen to prevent Artillery Fungus from bonding and staining. Bugs are going to bond to anything once dried. I use Poorboy's World Bug Squash @ 3:1. It is LSP safe at that...

    Cluster plastic

Because of the sensitivity of cluster plastics and how difficult they are to access to polish it is a good idea to hang a towel in front of it when cleaning the steering wheel and the rest of the dash and console to prevent any overspray from getting on it.

    Cluster plastic

If you can remove it they are easy to polish. I use ONR to clean.

    Tokyo Drift '67 Shelby GT500

With the release of Furious 7 just hours away I felt it was about time I put together this write up. It is not as detailed as I had originally planned due to time and going from memory. This is one of my favorite projects, performed nearly one year ago. This car is one of 3 to survive the...

    Paint Correction expecting too much?

AG often has sales that include free shipping for orders over a certain amount (usually $125-$150). Seems like a lot but it is very easy to come to that total with backing plates and pads. The question is: what is your time worth? If you can save 2 hours over the car (and probably achieve...

    Paint Correction expecting too much?

Perfection is a unicorn; a mythical creature that you can chase forever but never actually capture because it doesn't actually exist. There is also what I refer to as "The Waldo Effect". Once 95% of perfections are removed, the remaining ones stand out more since they are no longer...

Black Pearl - Review and Airbrush Application

I haven't tried others or know their costs so I can't say. About 2 oz. to coat 4 tires so cost is a little under $10, so a little less than $2/month based upon 6 month durability. I don't recall now but I flushed with water first, then either mineral spirits or lacquer thinner. As long as it...

    Car Shows

I sponsor and help organize the C&C in Raleigh. The bigger the show the more likely there is to be issues. For the most part, the C&Cs are good because the majority are there because they are car nuts. The shows that are included as parts of a festival or a publicity activity are where you...

Black Pearl - Review and Airbrush Application

This is the test tire after about 4 months. The test had to end here because the tires needed to be replaced. I almost forgot to get final photos so I snapped this one in the lot of the tire shop in poor, evening light. Using the valve stem and weight as a point of reference you can see the...

    Controlling a rotary buffer!

Always try to have the polisher "pulling away" from you rather than "pushing toward" you. With practice you learn to let the direction of the rotation do the work of moving it for you.

How to judge cost of services?

I did not read your entire post, but with regard to the larger hourly for higher end work there are the following considerations: 1. Customer expectations are going to be higher. Chasing individual imperfections becomes very time consuming. When lower level details are performed it is...

    Automatic car wash YUCK!!!

Very nice work and such a shame. I hope they finally learned their lesson. Am I correct in understanding the insurance paid for polishing due to car wash related damage? I've never heard of insurance covering such. I probably would have suggested to the owner that they bring this thread to...

Why do all of my tire dressings streak? Problem with bonding

Some tires just don't take well to dressings, as you have discovered. I like CarPro Perl 1:1 but I have seen it streak still on hard compound smooth tires like you have. I think your best bet would be Black Pearl tire coating. It seems pricey but it truly does last.
