What lens do you use to shoot your cars?

I'm in the minority here, but a dedicated Pentax user for many years. I use a an 18-135 zoom and also a 50 mm Macro. Gives me the best range and clarity depending on conditions.

CCS Spot Buffs 4 Inch Foam Pad Kit?

From reading a lot on AGO, it seems that the pad recommendation for 4" pads on the Flex 3401 are the LC HYBRID pads over the CCS pads and the LC 4" interchangeable backing plate system. I can't locate the link but I seem to recall that the AG classes often set them up this way for introductory...

    backing plate question

Be sure the hook configuration is compatible with the pads that you'll be using. On mine, the standard PC backing plate (7346 DA sander) and the Lake Country plates are compatible with the LC pads that I have. I bought some specialized glass polishing pads (not the automotive type) for...

    Menzerna PO85RD after M205?

I don't have the Menzerna and wanted to save the money if it isn't an advantage as I'm already going broke with supplies ! Thanks and BTW .....best of luck on your new assignment. I hope you get to enjoy some Oktoberfest. I don't. Maybe I'll start a payroll deduction plan for supplies with...

    Menzerna PO85RD after M205?

Great suggestion. I used a LC white CCS pad, but didn't try one of the no-cut gray ones. Got to give it a shot, thanks.

How to remove "trim" and clean adhesive underneath?

A heat gun will soften the adhesives, a hair dryer will not likely get hot enough. I agree with the plastic razor or a plastic putty knife to get behind the panel and pry it. The adhesive will also soften with heat and you may be able to scrape that off as well. I recently removed the...

how lenient are you with your daily driver?

I keep my truck and my wife's SUV up at about 90%. Weekly washes, every other day or so a light exterior detail spray. It just makes me feel good when they're kept clean inside and out. Both are 7 years old and look near new after 90K miles.

    Menzerna PO85RD after M205?

Would Menzerna PO85RD (SF-4500) amp the gloss fom Meguiars 205 ? I have a Midnight Blue '07 Tahoe and it is so dark, it may as well be black and I want the metal flake to pop. It's a garaged vehicle, but a daily driver. Topped with Klasse high gloss sealant glaze and Meguiars Gold Class...

Mike Phillips Hits iTunes Store with Show Car Shine iBook! + $6.95 Flat Rate Shipping through 9/13

I downloaded Mike's iBook last night and now can't put it down!! The interactive pictures, video links and automatic links to forum articles are way cool. The only thing wrong is that I'm having so much fun reading it, that I'm not out in the garage using my tools and polishes

    NAnoskin fine vs medium?

I just used the Nanoskin FINE grade towel for the first time. I did a 2007 Midnight Blue metallic Tahoe that had a summer's worth of hot California sun baked on contamination and also had considersable overspray from a recent clearcoat on another vehicle. I was amazed. The towel was quick...

Even driving slowly in parking lots, my headers and short exhaust pipes have set alarms off. It is embarrassing, but I've learned to live with it :o

    Painting cars

I have never painted professionally, but I was trained by a very accomplished professional. The prep work is indeed much more time consuming than shooting the paint, but just like detailing, it's all about the prep and details up front. What I enjoy about painting is that when you have done...

Westley's Bleche Wite what happened to it?

I bought a new bottle recently and also noticed a difference. I use it for a completely unintended use.........I originally observed that it brightened uncoated aluminum wheels (Appliance turbo vecs) and 4 WD manual hub bodies ( even though it says not to use on uncoated aluminum ). Worked...

How to Waterless Wash Your Cat

We have four cats, all indoors types. Found this thread entertaining! My problem is that we keep several spray bottles of plain water around to break up the occasional "scrap arguments" they get into, so even the sight or sound of the squirters send them scattering. What do you use as an LSP...
