    Applying Wax Sun or Shade?

Is it dangerous to be compounding a car in the sun? Obviously waxing can cause streaking but interested to know the affects of the sun/heat when compounding using m105. Thanks.

    Centre of ccs pad collapsing

Hi guys, I recently threaded a post about my ccs pads getting really hot in the centre while compounding. I have also noticed that the centre of the pads is losing its thickness while the outer areas of the pads are fine and thicker. It looks like the centres are collapsing. Would this be due to...

Compound and then Wax (no polish)?

Hi guys, just wondering if when having compounded a car (m105) if I can then jump to the waxing stage instead of the in between polishing stage. I know the polish gives a deep gloss look but to be honest the wax seems to do that as well. Am I right in saying that? Obviously the wax is primarily...

    Polishing in the sun

Hi guys, I always hear that polishing, waxing should be done in the shade. Why is that? I am off to detail a car this week at someone's house, but they don't have a garage for me to work in. Just wondering if it is sunny out what the impact of working in this might be? It's a blue coloured car...

    Pads melting on the Velcro

Thanks that's a really helpful comment! Will try out the scales thing and see what I am exerting!

    Pads melting on the Velcro

Thanks guys really interesting stuff. I was using ccs 6.5" orange pad with my Harbor Freight DA and using m105. It was a black car with lots of scratches and swirls and found I had to repeat passes a lot before seeing significant results. I also had it set on speed 6 to get the most out of it...

    Pads melting on the Velcro

Hi guys. Yesterday whilst compounding with ccs pads and m105 I noticed the Velcro on the back centre had started to melt and tear and was really hot as I changed the pads. Any reason why this is? Is this common? How can I avoid this happening?

How long do ccs pads roughly last?

Ok. Also I have two orange ccs pads for compounding. Is this ok as I know some people change pads every panel etc. I am trying to keep cost down at the moment as I only do this as a hobby.

How long do ccs pads roughly last?

Thanks! How can you tell when a pad is worn out to much?

How long do ccs pads roughly last?

Hi there. I came across a video by a detailer slating off 'cowboy detailers' who charge $45 for claybaring, polish and wax. His main point was they are obviously using the same pads for each car they have done in the past. Where as he will use a brand new pad for each car he works on and...

Use a DA polisher after wet sanding?

Thanks Mike! I may end up for safety sake try compounding the scuffs etc with m105 and see what that does! I am not experienced in wet sanding so may be wise to hold off on that. I will try and put a few before and after pics when I end up doing the job.

Use a DA polisher after wet sanding?

Wow thanks Mike! If I can get a photo I will post it to this thread and would appreciate your gut reaction! I am interested in just seeing what the m105 can do alone followed by polishing. Also I didn't realise there are stages of sanding with different grit papers. Why is that done instead of...

Use a DA polisher after wet sanding?

Hi there. A friend has asked me if I would detail/take out some deep scratches on his car (having scraped it in a parking lot). I am wondering can I wet sand these individual scratches and then use my DA polisher with m105? I don't own a rotary. And how coarse of a sand paper should I use?? Am...

    What compound to use?

Ok thanks. Think I will try the m105. Do I just wipe it off with a towel like I've always done with the UC after buffing?

    What compound to use?

I have the UC and it has always removed swirls etc. I have noticed though that i have to use a lot of passes/time with the DA to take out scratches and especially on black paint. Would I be better off with the m105 for specifically taking out deeper scratches?

    What compound to use?

What's the difference between the Meguires Ultimate Compound and the M105? I hear people say the m105 is harder to wipe off and has a lot of dust. Can you still get the same results with the UC if you work a little longer with it?

    What compound to use?

Hi guys. I have an HF DA polisher and a number of pads including ccs orange light cutting. I am looking to buff out some scuffs and scratches on a friends car. They scraped the car in a parking lot. I am wondering what the best compound I could use to take out these scratches (at least the ones...

    5.0" backing plate or 6.0"?

Re: 5.0" backing plate or 6.0"? Ok thanks! Is a 6.5" pad regarded as a larger pad? It seems Lake country make this the standard size.. I was thinking of buying the Deluxe combo pack that you have on auto geek. However the pads are all 6.5" but it does come with a 5" backing plate. Is there...
