Hi there. I have a 6" backing plate with my DA polisher and a 6.5" lake country ccs cutting pad plus some others. I was wondering if there is any advantage using a smaller backing plate like a 5"? I was recommended using that size as pads are cheaper too. But is there any real performance difference between the two? I don't want to buy a load of 6.5" pads if smaller is better. What's the standard size people generally would use especially for light cutting (orange pad). Thanks. Mark

The smaller pads will have a bit more movement across the polishing surface as the machine won't have to worry about the extra size of the other pads.

Smaller pads make it easier to use a DA and get the results you are looking for although technique will be the main factor for your best results.

You will want to go with the smaller pads.

Ok thanks! Is a 6.5" pad regarded as a larger pad? It seems Lake country make this the standard size..

I was thinking of buying the Deluxe combo pack that you have on auto geek. However the pads are all 6.5" but it does come with a 5" backing plate. Is there another combo kit that is for 5" backing plates?

Thanks.

I would just get a 5" backing plate then one of the pick 3 or pick 6 pad kits.
