Who's planning to use Optimum Gloss-Coat?

Drama aside, who's planning to try Optimum Gloss-Coat? I have a car scheduled for a few weeks from now, but I would be very interested in hearing more reviews and feedback before then. From what I have read so far, its gloss is outstanding (very similar to CQuartz UK) but it is much easier to...

CQUK vs Duragloss vs DP vs Opti-Coat comparison

Question for the OP - how was the squeaky clean applied? Was it used on a DA, or was it used by hand? I suspect that the work time of the product is what determines the ultimate success or failure.

What is the average time it takes you guys to compound with a DA?

Nope. If you are striving for 95%+ correction when viewed under all different types of lighting in a dark room, it is going to take you time to compound. You are going to be working much smaller areas (try 16" sections), hitting certain areas multiple times, stopping to check your work and...

What is the average time it takes you guys to compound with a DA?

It really depends on the level of correction that you are trying to obtain. On the low-end, 4-6 hours. On the higher-end, 12-15 hours.

    Optimum Gloss-Coat is IN STOCK!

Considering that it won't require throwing away multiple applicators and towels after each use (like most glass/gloss coatings do), that will be a significant savings right there. Also, you can make the point that Optimum is the only coating brand out there that is engineered by someone with...

    Any precautiions with Iron X?

I still use it. I can't say that I agree with everything that poster posts, but he does have a college-level chemistry background that I do not...and he does have body shop experience. Additionally, I have had Iron-X turn certain paint slightly "sticky"...which may be a result of the chemical...

    Optimum Gloss-Coat is IN STOCK!

My guess is that it's probably leaps/bounds above 2.0 at dirt release. 2.0 will stop beading if the car is parked outside and not washed for several weeks. You end up having to clay and/or iron-x the car to bring the beading back. I have seen no such issues with any of the glass/gloss type...

Opticoat 2.0 discontinued, OptiCoat Pro sees price increase

After some thought, the price of $60 for one 10cc tube of Gloss-Coat is very competitive with CQuartz UK. CarPro is currently charging $55 for a 30ml kit of UK with a sample bottle of Reload. Based on the preliminary reports I've heard, the Optimum gloss-coat will probably have an easier...

    The power of 205

A lot of us having been using 205 to both cut and finish. It is a very very versatile product, but takes time to fully master.

    to the M100 users...

With the right technique, M100 can finish off incredibly well on soft to medium paints. I use the new style Meguiars MF Finishing discs with M100 and I can finish down with almost no micro-marring and just the slightest bit of haze. The key is to blow out the pad after each section, keep...

    Some questions on DG Coating

You're one of the few exceptions. If I had to guess, you probably also applied two coats of UK? I've found that UK does darken paint, but only if you apply two coats; if you apply one coat, the darkening should not be as significant as you described...but ymmv. Most people are very happy with...

    What polish for good paint

I used to think that way - but there are a couple of good reasons to use an AIO followed by a dedicated sealant. 1) AIOs are generally more friendly to short-cycling. 2) AIOs can be easier to wipe-off on finicky paint, and tend to be a bit more friendly to warm temperatures 3) There is...

    What polish for good paint

Bob, I think you're perfectly aware of the different levels of clearcoat removal with these various tools. While clay is somewhat abrasive, you are not going to remove much clearcoat if at all. Likewise, a light AIO on a finishing pad should not do much more than removing any embedded dirt...

    What polish for good paint

If it already looks good enough to you, why polish? You're just removing valuable clearcoat and UV protection. Clay the car and hit it an AIO on a finishing pad, followed up by a layer of sealant from the same brand.

    Clay vs nanoskin

Nanoskin works, but on a new pad/towel, it will marr the first few cars that you use it on. As far as contaminant removal, it removes about 80-90% of what clay does. If you are striving for complete contaminant removal, I would advise claying after the usage of nanoskin.

    Which APC?

Meguiars APC is decent. Optimum Power Clean works as well, but for a lot more $$.
