    Some questions on DG Coating

http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/auto-detailing-101/80782-cquk-vs-duragloss-vs-dp-vs-opti-coat-comparison.html Based on what I read in that thread (and a few others), this coating is less than impressive. The price of it also gives hint to its level of performance. If you plan on coating, I...

    M101

M101 has a ton of cut - it is not a compound that needs to be used very often. You can get into trouble very quickly with this product. For most compounding needs, M100 works great. Very good cut, great finish and extremely inexpensive. HD Cut and FG400 are also good substitutes (and may work...

The local car wash - evil or partner? Remember our drought

My understanding is that it you can wash during certain days as long as you have a shut-off nozzle (who doesn't?) on their hose. A $500 car wash? New California fines for wasting water take effect - CBS News With that said, if you're really concerned, you can always bring your own 5-gal...

    2011 Prius - Replaced Opti-Coat 2.0 with CQuartz UK 2014 Edition

IW, while the MF finishing discs from Meguiars deliver less cut than their MF cutting discs, their cut is still very similar to a light-cutting foam pad. While I understand that the MF discs and D300/301/302 were developed together as a system, many of us have discovered that the discs can be...

    2011 Prius - Replaced Opti-Coat 2.0 with CQuartz UK 2014 Edition

It has been about 10 months since I last gave my personal car any kind of exterior detailing. While the Opti-Coat 2.0 was still working fairly well, I felt that I had greatly improved my paint correction skills since my car was last worked on (thanks JSmooth), and as a result - I think I could...

    Rupes or Flex 3401?

I've owned both. The Rupes 21 is hands down, the more versatile machine once you master it. I disagree that the Flex corrects better - if it does, then you are not using the right pads, products and technique with the Rupes 21. The biggest advantages of the Rupes 21 are the large 21mm throw...

    Meguiars D151

There's a couple of reasons why it's advantageous to use an AIO in certain situations...even if you are using a separate LSP. 1) Thin paint. There are lots of cars out there with thin paint. An AIO will have less cut, and it is perfect for "glossing up" thin paint and providing a minimal...

In Love with the 3401 again

Stiffer pads seem to finish a bit better in some situations, and especially on the Rupes 21. The large-throw has something to do with this. Try a stiffer pad, such as a Rupes yellow. I've come across situations in the past, where I was getting hazing with a Rupes white pad that was instantly...

In Love with the 3401 again

Honestly, I am quite certain that I could have achieved the same results with the 21. Finishing is going to be very dependent upon residue control, machine speed, pad used, arm speed and pressure. What speed were you using on the 21, and with what arm speed? How long did you work it for? Did...

any quick detailer that has ability to hide swirls?

Amongst the enthusiast circle, HD Express seems to have the most filling ability of any QD that I have seen. I'm sure the dealership automagic/P&S/carbrite line of products will probably have something that out fills it though.

Outside the Box Paint Polishing: 2014 Camaro SS

Get better soon! My guess is that the TB pad had a "leveling effect" on the paint, which is why it brought out the gloss. I have had this happened to me before on a rotary/wool combo, and given the forced-rotation nature of the 3401, a similar effect may have occurred.

Contamination two weeks after new wax?

It's an issue with your environment. In those situations, washing more frequently is your only defense towards contamination sticking onto the paint. The more frequently that you wash, the less often you'll have to clay.
