    Test Exterior Product Combos Recommendations

Hello, I'm new to auto detailing and have recently purchased a wide variety of exterior products, all of which claim to be the best. I have five cars at home here to test various combinations. The cars are as follows: Polar White 1994 Mustang GT modified show car with excellent OEM paint...

How fussy should you be with new paint jobs?

Wouldn't equipment become a factor? What kind of "after-the-spraying" work is done by the shop and what should you expect them to do? How much of a quality job is determiined by the machine technology and how much is manual labor by the painters via buffing and whatever?

How fussy should you be with new paint jobs?

Ok, then how much is a fair price for that kind of 'show room' quality paint job? I would think that you will have a harder time trying to get a small shop to re-do a paint job compared to let's say a dealership. You could come back with,"well ask for references and reviews from other...

How fussy should you be with new paint jobs?

Is it too much to ask a paint shop to re-do a job if you see pits in the paint surface? How about "orange peel"? Can you ask the paint shop to avoid ANY "orange peel" in their finish? Is it too much to ask them to call you immediately after the car is brought out of the curing room? A lot of...

WOW. Yeah, but you'd think that a guy with a new Audi would be smarter.

I was on my way to Sears to pick up a mechanics seat and was sitting at a stop light. I was admiring a beautiful new Audi that pulled up along side of me when I was shocked to see a large Christmas tree strapped to the top of the roof!!! WITHOUT a blanket underneath it. AND it was windy...

    vinyl stripes

Wow, SLD. I had no idea they made masking tape that thin. I think that would do the trick. Can I pick up that 3M tape at any hardware department or just hobby shops?:props:

Ok, thanks. That's what I was looking for. Actual experiences. I can't see paste wax freezing, but who knows? Probably just the liquids. AM

Thanks guys, I will do that then. But just the waxes and polishes, right? Do clay bars have to come in? How bout shampoos? Pads and machinery can stay out there, right? Can the solid paste waxes stay out there? AM

Ok, now that I've bought all this...

I just bought hundreds of dollars worth of detailing products. Winter is coming. Now, how/where do I store all of this stuff? It gets pretty darn cold in eastern PA here and my garage is not heated. When I used to buy just Turtle Wax or Meguiars' basic wax, I'd never give it a thought as to...

    vinyl stripes

I understand what you're saying. But these are pinstripes perhaps 1/16 to 1/8 wide. Some on my car were vinyl that I applied a long time ago and still in excellent shape. But I also had an artist actually paint long straight pinstripes that ended in a "fish-hook" design. I wish I could remember...

    vinyl stripes

Understood. But how can you see how it's affecting them when they're covered by product? I'm worried that when I remove the residue, I'll see nothing there at all! It's then a little too late to stop using that method. I guess I'm looking for someone who has successfully used the PC 7424XP (or...

    vinyl stripes

Mike, great advice. I usually use an old soft bristle toothbrush to remove wax residue from the sides of these stripes. Is that a supported method in your opinion? In the past, when I did not own a PC (just got one), I'd always wax these areas in long sweeping strokes and then remove the...

    vinyl stripes

Thanks, Mike. The problem is, these stripes are thin and there is a small space between them. I'd like to make sure that the paint between these stripes are polished/waxed. Since I will be using a PC to buff with, I was wondering if I can safely go over these without fear of pulling them off...

Thanks, Dave. How did you apply it? If by hand, would you ever try machine application (PC 7424XP)?
