    Tires turning brown

Most dedicated tire products will do a good job. You just need to use a stick bristle brush to agitate and rinse. A second application will let you know if all the browning is gone. Once the tires are clean, use a tire coating to have long term protection. Tires will turn brown when the...

    vinyl tonneau cover protection

I saw a video of a car show and Mike now works for 3D/HD. Not a company I am a fan of, but I am sure he will increase their presence on the market, like Yvan Lacroix did for Optimum. It's funny that since Yvan left Optimum, I have not heard from them. An other company that had a huge loss.

    Risk question for the pros

That is true. I have seen brands that have thick paint and no clear! For example, Range Rovers and Jaguars. I remember going through a clear on a Jaguar and was shocked. The paint was almost 200 microns thick on the entire car and the scratch was very shallow. I started my wet sanding with...

    Risk question for the pros

Two things: First, I would not touch paint for anything more abrasive than a cleaner wax or 1 step polish without taking a paint depth reading. My paint gauge doesn't tell me the thickness of the clear coat but some more expensive models do. In any case, once I know the paint depth, I have a...

    vinyl tonneau cover protection

That makes sense. That product is formulated for leather, so interior and not exposed to the elements. I would put normal coating instead of leather coating on something outside the vehicle.

    Need advice

Hard to say what it is but I would first try to remove it chemically. First with an APC/Degreaser at pretty high concentration (something like 4:1). Let sit on a test spot for about a minute then try to buff off with a wet microfiber towel. If that doesn't work try with an acid based cleaner...

I use what ever I use on the paint for the vehicle. Any sealant or coating will do a good job. Just make sure to really clean the vinyl well first so the product binds to it.

Importance of Wet Sanding in Touch-ups

When done correcly, a touch up that is wet sanded will disapear and looks as if nothing has ever happened to the paint. The difficulty with that is you need to let the paint cure before wet sanding. With modern paints, that is at least 24 hours. The paint repair kits from places like ChipFixx...

Mobile detailers... what do you guys pay entry level employees?

I don't employ people but I can still give you some advice from past experience. As a business owner, you should aim to pay employes about 25% of income for the job. This will allow to cover for expenses and profit for the business. So that means you have to be more careful about what you...

    RVs

I am planning to use a Rotary, not a DA. Nice to know that a cleaner wax can work. Saving a step would be a great advantage on a long job like this. I don't know if I want to use wool as a single step on a rotary though, I feel it would leave holograms behind... not sure if it would do that...

    RVs

After years of being asked to do RVs and refusing, I finaly gave in and booked an appointment for next week. I have a few questions for those who do them on a regular basis. 1. How do you know if the RV has regular paint or gelcoat on it? I know gelcoat is common but I have never worked on a...

    New tool for me

Using 5.5" pads. Trying to keep it as flat as possible. I have seen Yvan barely holding the machine while polishing, so I think the pad makes a huge difference. While I was using it I had to use a lot of force to keep it from moving in all directions.

    New tool for me

Thanks guys. Tried the polisher yesterday. Wasn't too bad but since I only have flat pads, I was fighting the machine a lot to keep it from bouncing and flying around. Gonna need to buy waffle type pads which are not supposed to do that on a rotary. So my first impression is that cordless...

    New tool for me

After watching a few of Yvan Lacroix' videos, I have decided to give the rotary polisher an other try. I purchased a Milwaukee Fuel cordless rotary today and will start using it as soon as tomorrow. The machine came with 2 waffle type polishing pads. They look like 7 or 8 inch diameter to me...

Best way to clean exterior of windshield

Try using a foam cutting pad with a regular compound and see how it goes. Keep the glass polish for scratch removal in the glass and if you ever decide to do that, you will need the pad designed to do it, a rotary polisher and a lot of patience.
