What does it mean when a foam pad does this?

I thought of that since I removed the backing plate before but it is still there. I did a few panels today, rear fender, side skirt, and door pillars. Used less product and went back to do 4 passes per section, then wiping the surface and repeating. I still end up doing 16 passes total but...

What does it mean when a foam pad does this?

I meant when I was done for the day. I rinse the pads in the sink with warm water to clean all the product out before letting them dry. I am using orange pads, I do have a brush that I use between sections along with a towel. I am only doing a few panels at a time, or 1 large one like the...

What does it mean when a foam pad does this?

Lake Country 5" backing plate with Lake Country Flat 5.5" pads. The backing plate is marked so I can see rotation. When I rinsed the first pad out the dip in the foam was still present and could be felt on the back as well. The second pad once rinsed out looks and feels normal. As soon as I saw...

What does it mean when a foam pad does this?

I was following the pictures here for priming the pad and adding product. The three pea size drops are much larger than my drops (and larger than any peas I have eaten). I think my 10-12 drops totalled somewhere between the "pea" sized and dime sized drops in those pictures.

What does it mean when a foam pad does this?

The pad had been cleaned in the pic. After cleaning I would put 10-12 pea size dots around the outside of the pad. When I did my first panel last week I was making a solid circle of product around the edge. I was using a lot more pressure and speed 5.5-6. It seemed like the pad was actually...

What does it mean when a foam pad does this?

Ok, too much heat. The funny thing is I tried this new technique to reduce heat. Previously I was using a lot more pressure and the machine was getting pretty warm as well as the paint. So I tried using less pressure, moving quicker, and doing more passes. I wasn't doing 18-21 passes without...

What does it mean when a foam pad does this?

I've slowly been compounding my car one panel at a time when I get time. After a few small sections I usually run the pad on a towel for a second. Today I did a few panels and both times (one with a cleaned pad and one with a brand new pad) the center of the pad was sunken in after I finished a...

I got a used car with ok paint I would like to fix

I finished up the roof and am fairly happy with the results and I'm going to order several pads and a 5" backing plate before I tackle the rest of the car. The single pad was getting pretty caked by the time I finished the roof even with brushing and running it on a towel a few times to try and...

I got a used car with ok paint I would like to fix

So I finally installed some lighting in my garage so I could work without opening the door and letting all the heat and rain in. I don't know how builders get away with a single light bulb for a 2 car garage but onto the detailing. I picked up the Harbor Freight DA and Meguiar's Ultimate...

Best way to address clear coat failure?

If it is just the hood/roof/trunk you could try vinyl wrap. Wrap itself would be around $150-200. I wrapped a white S2000 hardtop black to put on my silver car. It had a few flaws, a corner that I cut too close and you could see the white paint, and then there was the spot where the wrap...

Safely strip 2005 Subaru Forester wheels

I used some eco stripper once before on furniture, it did almost nothing and I went and bought the good stuff. I'm guessing media blasting is out of the budget? Sand paper is probably the most eco friendly then. I would paint them over plasti-dip, it will hold up much better. A couple cans...

How much UV protection is enough for dashboard?

I used Poorboys natural look on my previous car. I'm about out and going to order some 303 to try. I've done a little research on windshield tint and plan to call around and get estimates. They have virtually clear tint that blocks 99% of UV and 40-45% of heat and reduces glare. Only...

I got a used car with ok paint I would like to fix

Thanks for the replies and advice. I forgot to mention clay, I did clay the car before using the 3M system and usually would clay before the Meguiars 3 step system on my previous cars. I'll update the original post.

I got a used car with ok paint I would like to fix

My previous cars were new or had pretty good paint so my standard routine was to clay the car and then use Meguiars Deep Crystal 3 step system once a year and a wax between. When I got my 2009 RX-8 the paint wasn't great, it has many light scratches on the hood and roof. Pretty sure the...
