I've found that the gray/blue Chemical guys drying towel works good for our application.

I suspect that if the headlight lenses have been infused with the color they can not be changed. But I don't recall a company or auto marker who deliberately tints their headlight darker..

No primer is needed as you already have a ideal surface to work from. the trouble now is to color match the spot
