Hi everyone. Had the pleasure of working on a client's Mach 1 this past week. He is a good friend of mine and just moved down here to the Orlando area. He and I were friends for a long time up north where I used detail all of his cars. He told me that once I left he had one person do one of his rides and he wasn't happy. So he told himself that no one will touch his cars but me. Fast forward 7yrs and he decides to move down here and he brought with him this car that had not been touched since purchasing it, besides washes.

He brought the car down one day for me to give a quote and to catch up on life. Needless to say the car was rough but I knew with the right products and a little time it would shine again. He was all aboard for a complete coating package that included the PBL line of coatings.

1. After washing with Ultima paint guard wash the paint was decond with Iron-x and a nanoskin mitt.
2. wheels were cleaned with Iron-x and various brushes. Tires were hit with Tuff Shine tire cleaner and there stiff tire brush.
3. I had originally settled on using my 3401 and a orange ccs pad with FG400 after a test spot. But after completing half the hood and fender I decided the best course of action was to pull out the trusty dusty Makita rotary and have at it. I have to say it was a pleasure to use it and made quick work of defects with the orange CCS pad and the FG400 and finished out well.
4. The paint was then finished with SF4000, rotary and a black CCS pad.
5. To prep for the coating I used the Pinnacle Black label surface cleansing polish and my 3in GG polisher with a black CCS pad.
6. The coating was applied with the supplied applicator and wipe off with a Miracle microfiber towel.
7. Wheels were removed and prepped/coated in the same manner as was the glass.
8. Trim was restored using UTTG and Meguiars new aerosol black trim restorer with great results. Front wheel wells were dressed the Meguiars aerosol product too.
9. Tires were dressed with UTTG as well.

Impressive...
I'm still a noobie and I have a question. If I'm reading this right---you also coated the wheels and glass with PBL coating, correct?

Did a search but man could not find---What's UTTG?

Hi Tom. Thank you. Nothing wrong with asking questions!

UTTG- Ultima Tire and Trim Guard.

Yes I coated the inside/faces of the wheels with PBL (pinnacle black label) wheel coating and the glass with PBL glass coating.

You mean you didn't burn through the paint, cut the body lines, blow pads apart, AND set into action the delayed Mayan apocalypse by using a... ROTARY?! ;)

Nice man, always glad to see the wheel' throwing down.

Wow ! Beautiful ! Love those Shakers

So do I!!

Thanks bud! I cut my teeth on a rotary. Personally I feel that rotary when used properly is the best tool for correction work

Nice job. Ultimate Black gave the shaker a good look.

Wow, stunning work. And now your friend was reminded why he shouldn't let anyone else touch his Stang! Love the test spot and folks...that's all you have to do. Find a nice typical and small section or sections and nail down what will work best. I like how you kept it small, smokinss, and that's all you need to do and the smaller the quicker to find what works.

I'm also a rotary Geek and agree. I am so comfortable with it now i can't be persuaded to use anything else for correction.

Thanks bud. I agree. The 50/50 even shocked me.

Thank you for the nice words. That test spot was with the 3401. Ended up switching to the rotary when I discovered that the car had more RIDS than I first realized.

That is a nice turnaround!

Thank you!

Same.. With the pe14 and the low RPM speeds... I want one bad. hehe. I just picked up the FLEX DA but I just love the speed of a rotary.

The flex DA is a great tool and I use it on most of my jobs.
If my Makita ever dies then a pe14 is on the list

I handled one at Detail Fest and I loved it. The low speeds with a finishing polish could be the silver bullet for me. I'd love to test one on a dark car and see how nice I can get it to finish down.
