Hello All!

After a successful detail of my own car I was excited to move onto the next, which in this case was my lovely girlfriend's Lexus is300. I decided to change around my products from the last job just to better experience what each product can offer and which I like more.

Supplies:
-I the porter cable 7424 for the job.
-Clayed it using a fine Nanoskin clay towel (it's amazing!) and meguiar's clay.
-Polish was Meguiar's m105 and m205.
-Blackwow was used on the trim
-For sealant I used Blackfire's Black Diamond
-On the exhaust, Mothers mag and aluminum polish
-Shampoo was meguiar's gold class.
-2 bucket method for washes
-Assorted microfibers for wiping/drying/buffing ect.
-Blackfire Crystal Seal Paint Sealant
-Lake Country Orange light cutting pads were used during the polishing stage
-Uber black wax/sealant pad used for applying the BFBD sealant

The car had never been polished to my girlfriend's knowledge so the imperfections had been accumulating since day one. I did this job in 1 day, though it was a marathon. The girlfriend even pitched in and helped with some of it so it could have easily been broken into two full days.

I didn't have any shots of when the car was extra dirty. I took it to a car wash and used the power washer to blast off much of the dirt (I'm still gauging whether to get a foamer/pressure washer or not).

After the pressure washer rinse:

One spot in particular my girlfriend wished would go away:

Paint Exchange from someone dooring her car

Another shot of the top of the truck with the horrid scratch on it

Passenger side door, all swirled up

The B pillars were very faded and scratched. This was definely the most exciting part of the detail for me as I hoped I could clean these up nicely (and I wasn't disappointed!)

Tail lights had a pretty heavy cover of scratches on them and oxidation as well

Additional light cover that was very oxidized. Didn't even really look all that red anymore...

The hood. Imperfections all around :(

Headlights were discolored and clouded:

The trim was pretty dull. UV exposure had taken it's toll on it

And the polishing begins! 50/50 shots
B Pillars

Trunk

After the polish was completed:

And then after the other products were applied, aka the final result:
The color really came back to the light covers after they were polished.

Exhaust tip cleaned up. It appeared that there were some deeper scratches on it. I'm thinking perhaps someone used some coarse steel wool on it but who knows. It looks much better than before anyway

Headlights are now looking good again. After polishing them I put Blackfire Crystal Seal on them for protection.

I got the majority of the nasty marks off of the trunk. Girlfriend is happy :-)

The Blackfire Wet Diamond gives the paint some very good reflections

The trim cleaned up real nice too

My favorite picture from the shoot. It looks like you're looking into a pool

More reflections

Another successful detail in my book :-)

I hope you guys enjoyed the write-up, and as always, questions/comments/criticisms are welcome!

Car looks 110 percent better. Great turnaround achieved and the results were amazing. Thanks for posting and sharing. You used the orange pad for the 105 and 205 , if I read that right?

Yes that's correct. If it wasn't finishing as nice I had plans to go to a less aggressive pad but the 205 + Orange pad worked nicely

I've always loved that color on all Lexus. I have to ask, what is hanging from the passenger side foglight?

Hahah ah that. I started thinking maybe I had missed a spot or something. But you are refering to the plug in cord hanging down.
It is a plug in such as those found on the end of an extension cord. Since is gets so cold here in Fairbanks, AK (sometimes -40F for a few weeks at a time) it's necessary to have heating pads on the battery, transmission and oil pan to keep the fluids somewhat viscous. I've heard many tourists think that we just have hybrid electric cars here and that always makes me chuckle.
