Ghengishahn (Tom) and I took the day, yesterday, to detail his '03 Viper. The car is in great shape, having less than 6k miles on the clock, but the paint definitely had some swirls that were just itching to be removed. I headed over to Tom's at 8:00am and we got right to work. To speed things up, Tom used the two bucket wash method the night before to get the car ready to go.
We didn't take a whole lot of before and after pictures or 50/50 shots, but I was able to capture the swirl marks, and took pictures in the sunlight, showing the swirl-free finish.
We started off by claying the paint with Meguiar's clay bar and Meguiar's Quik Detail spray. This proved the condition of the paint as the clay bar picked up little to no contaminants. Here are a couple of pictures, showing the swirl marks that needed removed:
We're both just beginners, but after we came up with a system that worked, we moved along nicely. Tom had his Milwaukee rotary, utilizing an orange LC CCS pad and M105, and I followed using my PC7424XP with a white LC flat pad and M205. Once complete, we sealed it up using a Meguiar's sealant from their professional line. I just can't remember which it was. The results were stunning:
Hopefully you enjoyed the pictures as much as Tom and I did taking them. It was a perfect day for hanging out in the garage and cruising around in a freshly detailed Viper.
