06 BMW help please

Folks,
I'm certainly new to this and am attempting to correct the car wash paint on my 06 BMW 535i with sapphire black paint and it is being very stubborn and taking forever and I'm not getting the car wash scratches removed. I'm using a gg6 with 5.5 meguiers mf pads and D300 compound. I started with the DMV disc (very slow responce) and switched to the DMX Xtra cut. The DMX was an improvement put is certainly a very slow process. Is there a better system?

Btw - I've watched the videos numerous times and I'm not getting the same results. Is it possible that I just simply have harder paint?
 
That's a pretty moderate aggressive path your taking.what speed do you have dialed on the gg da? Are your pads clean how much down force pressure,how many passes,maybe not enough compound.what section size are you out in the sun?
 
Thanks for the response. I'm running it on 5 for speed, I believe that I'm applying a fair amount of force, making 5 overlap passes with 3 pea sized applications per 2'x2' section Cleaning the pad with air every 2/3rd panel. In shade/garage. Watching video I don't believe I'm moving too fast but who am I to say.
 
If it's any indication - it took me a solid 1.5 hours to do one side of the car.
 
I primed the pad per the instructions on the videos. Made sure all fibers were covered
 
1.5 hours per side isn't really that bad, but we feel your pain. German cars are notorious for hard paint. My Audi needed a wool pad and M105 to see any significant correction with my GG6. I suspect the D300 won't have enough cut for your paint.
 
I would agree with Brett. I have several BMW's and I would normally use. Mag MF cutting pad with M100 or M105 followed by M205. BMW's have hard paint, so it might take a two step process.

Not what I wanted to hear but probably needed to none the less - thanks. Would it be advisable to finish it out, apply the Wolfgang deep gloss paint sealant then other the item to do the proper job? If so, what will I need to do to remove the sealant?
 
Whether you want to continue with the D300 is up to you, but I personally wouldn't bother if you plan to try again soon. Do put on some sealant either way, tho.You can apply your sealant for now and it won't slow you down later when you've got a more aggressive compound. The future correction process will remove the sealant so you don't need to worry about that.

1Hunter, I have a '13 650i GC with the same sapphire black paint (I suppose it could have changed formulas in 7 years, but you know those Germans, if it works they don't change it.) Anyway, I had great results with a Flex 3401 and the Pinnacle Advanced swirl remover and finishing polish. 5 passes and the cobwebs were all gone. It was actually my first try at paint correction and I was rather pleased with myself.
 
I think before you order more stuff you should modify your technique a bit.

1) Try switching to a 16"x16" working area from your 2'x2'. Small orbit free spinning DA polishers like the Griots like a smaller working area.
2) If you haven't marked your backing plate to ensure the pad is rotating, do that. This will make you focus on your technique to ensure the machine is doing what it's supposed to do.
3) Bump it up to speed 6. You won't hurt anything.
 
I also have a BMW with brutally hard paint. I've used more polish/pad/machine combo's than I can count, and had had great results on the GG6 with Griots 5.5 MF boss pads and the fast correcting cream. Easiest combo to use and results as good as anything I've used with GG6, rupes15, and Boss15 for polishers.
 
Andy - what pads did you use?

ekennett - i will implement & try your suggestions (pads are already marked and remain very cognizant of rotation)

Rmd - to clarify,would I need to get the BOSS backing plate also?

I'm speculating that I will probably need to move to a second pass/polish? Sure would enjoy seeing some opinions from folks with this color (if possible).

This car sure has had a steeper learning curve than I ever would have suspected! The Lincoln MKX was a breeze in comparison.

I used the Lake Country orange light cutting pad with the swirl remover and the LC white polishing pad for the finishing polish.
