Ok boat detailers.......I need your help

I've got a small arsenal of cleaning supplies (Pinnacle, Wolfgang, DP, Poorboys, Menzerna, Klasse, Clearkote, etc.......) that I've accumulated over that last couple of years - everything from DP Glass Cleaner to Souvern to Menzerna polishes. All products were bought with the purpose of detailing my Truck and Vette.

Now with the upcoming purchase of my new boat I was wondering if these same products could be used to detail it. I'm sure 303 will work fine on the inside upholstery but on the exterior will XMT, Poorboy's or Menzerna polishes work OK on the fiberglass hull? Do I still clay occasionally.....glaze, wax it with RMG and Liquid Souveran?

I guess in general I'm wondering if fiberglass/gel coat on a boat can be treated the same as a car's clear coat. Any advise and product recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Here's my baby (not the baby in the front, only pic I had at moment lol) at the lake house, look at dock lol :awesome:, I'll have to get pics of the Cig up. But on the Nautique, I did a light polish with OP and then Collinite 845 and then Collinite 915. Collinite stuff is super durable for use with constant water exposure. I wouldn't bother with a glaze on the boat, but I clayed before polishing. Use something Durable, not Souveran, maybe Liquid Souveran or DP Sealant if you have any. Though I highly recommend picking up some COllinite 845 or 915 (any auto or marine store will have as well if you need it fast).

I agree, everything I have read says Collinite is the way to go on boats. I like 3M products for the boat as well. I will be claying followed by 3M Finesse-it with Collinte 845 as an LSP. 303 is the best on the seats and interior.
 
Can poli-seal be used
I was going to Poli-Seal then collinite
What about Optimum poish and compund being used to remove swirls
 
What did you do around the logos and text or was it in the gel coat?
 
From what I have researched most auto and boat polish/wax is interchangable. For example Collinte 845 (sold at AG) is the same as their marine version 925. The same is true for many 3M products. So to answer your question I would think you could use either poli-seal or Optimum followed by Collinite however, I would try it out is a very small area, maybe in the lower corner of the transom. As with cars start with the least agressive combination and work from that point.

Just to close the loop......

Let me introduce the new member of my household "Little Miss Sunshine". She's a 2007 Mastercraft X-15

Gave a wash with Duragloss #591 (foam gun and Shmitt)
A couple coats of Collinite #845
A final wipe down with FK #425
and some Duragloss #281 on the tires
Used 303 on all the interior and Crystal Vision on the Glass.
(I hope these pictures finally upload)
 
Very nice job on your boat. I spend entirely too much time on my friends MasterCraft during the summer months. Lots of fun!

:awesome: Holly mother of...! I am getting a (you know what) ;) looking at that thing BLING! :righton: I am a River Rat and it is getting me PUMPED for the season! The boats and ski's are being detailing and the trailer is getting dialed in too. Only a month away for our annaul kick off the season river trip! WOOT WOOT!:cheers:

It would look sweet...but you probably would struggle towing it! :D
 
Very nice Job. Looks great. I am getting ready to detail mine in a couple weeks, it goes in the water mid-May. How did you like the Collinite? Did you apply with a PC or by hand? How about removal, PC (with bonnet) or by hand? I will be using Collinite for the first time this year

Went on and off fairly easily by hand. The bad thing is it has almost a solvent smell to it that wasn't pleasant at all.
