100% Hand Polished - Single Stage Paint - 1970 Mustang Mach 1

All Original 1970 Mustang Mach 1 with the 429 Big Block Ford Engine

The single stage paint on this Mustang was so thin we could not even tape-off the black matte vinyl graphics. Se we polished this to perfection all by hand using Meguiar's Ultimate line of products and good old fashioned elbow grease.

Here you go... a blast from the past!

Just to note...

It actually takes more skill and experience to carefully polish-out any type of car finish than it does to work by machine.

:)

Here's what the above Mustang looked like before...

When you know how to truly inspect the finish on a Special Interest Car then you know there's a little room for improvement and if you think this car looks good in the above pictures wait till we warm it over by MACHINE! :buffing:

This is a full size section cropped out of the original above, no resizing.

Oxidized Single Stage Paint
The below is a reflection shot of the overhead florescent tube lights, what I want you to see is the dull, opaque look the paint has at the bottom of the reflection of the lights. This is light oxidation and even though the car looks beautiful in the pictures above, in person the paint has a dull sheen to it caused by oxidation. This is a single stage paint by the way.

Products used, all applied by hand...
(Except the Ultimate Compound)

And here's the process...

I'm in love. Awesome car!

If you're really bored this weekend, I have a 1970 corvette 454 convertible that i'd be more than happy to let you hone your skills a little more on!:joking:

I was going to say if you pulled those defects by hand your a stud! HAHA That would be a lot of work and a ton of hours to recondition that pain by hand.

nice!!!

maybe next summer i'll randomly drop in for one night of these

Very cool and I would love to help you polish out your 1970 Corvette as well as take the 454 for a spin...

Except for white, most single stage paints are on the soft side so working by hand isn't too bad. Plus we had an entire team of guys working on the car. It's amazing how fast you can get the correction and/or polishing step done with half a dozen or more people all working together. That's what's fun about these Thursday night classes.

Randomly? Heck sign up and be part of the Transformation Team!

Old car, old fashioned techniques and old products (kinda) and the results speak for themselves, great work by the team!

Can't watch it at work, but I'll definitely be checking out the video at home. I just started my yearly pre-show prep on my El Camino for a July 29 judged show. As usual, the first two steps are clay, followed by an aggressive rub with M07. I'll surely be checking out the video for some additional tips on the subsequent steps. Thanks for posting the video.
