13 Accord protection

Well just picked up the XXX from Nick and will apply it tonight and post up pics later

I used BF Midnight Sun paste wax on my 2013 Accord. Black sedan. Very nice stuff. Look forward to the pics after XXX. I haven't tried that one. I bought the 3 oz. BF MS and then my next order AG or ACC had a free mystery gift and I'll be damned if it wasn't another 3 oz. BF MS...it was a great gift! So I'll be using MS for a while...I have 3 black cars, so it will get a lot of use.

good tip on the car pro cquartz I will try it. Here are teh pics of the wax top coat

That's some pretty nice wax. I can see the additional depth you got from it. Probably even more noticeable on your end.

Would love to but a little too pricey for me. I'm trying to get some neighbors to let me do some details so I can make a little money. 3-4 would get my money back from everything I have bought so far. Are you on the driveaccord forum?

Yes, I'm 00110001 over there.

yea thanks I am not sure on the pin stripe as it looks fine to me but everyone seems not to like them. I was surprised the wheels are 18x8 I thought 18x7 but not so they gave us the real deal.

Yeah not a big fan of pin stripe, looks much better with it off, nice ride.

found some Surf City Barrier reef carnauba wax and just did a coat . I did not notice much of a difference

Not surprised, that stuff is so so, XXX is great for the price, I really like like Pete's 53 for the $$ it's hard to beat. Then there's always Souveran..........

I am happy with the results for what I spent on this stuff , I just read the petes 53 item description and I think I should have purchased it instead.

At $150.00 even with a 20% discount I'll pass on the Black Ice. Here's a Bimmer and an Audi I did with CG Blacklight and Pete's 53 with PC DA.

Me being a HOnda owner I would of told the guy to get either clear bra or opticoat asap

can I put opticoat on top of the XXX

can I put opticoat on top of the XXX

Opticoat needs to be applied to bare paint. If your car is garage kept, I think the opticoat is unnecessary. A good paint sealant like menzerna power lock and some wax will be just fine. I highly recommend Collinite 845. Cheap and excellent protection!

Opti-Coat (or another hard, semi-permanent coating) is, IMO, essential on Honda paint, especially the 2013 Accord.

After one month of ownership, my 2013 Accord (which is garaged) had a number of rock chips in the paint and light pitting on the chrome around the grille.

I am currently in the process of applying Opti-coat, and have also applied Opti-lens to the headlights.

Opti coat wont do much for rock chips, you should look into a clear bra for that.

It won't entirely protect against rock chips and but impacts, but the added hardness will help, and it will act as a so-called 'sacrificial barrier'. Having it on there is going to do a lot more than having nothing on there will.

As for PPF (Paint Protection Film), I don't care for the look of it.

I notice the same paint issues with my wife's 2013 Accord. Super thin paint and chips easily. I have an order of opticoat on the way. Never used it yet. What's a good prep for that type of vehicle prior to the coating? She's has a dark blue Accord.

It all depends on condition. Something as fine as Menzerna SF 4000 might be enough. More likely, Menzerna PF 2500 on a green CCS pad will be a good bet. Do a test spot first, of course...

My case was a little more involved as I have removed almost all of the orange peel and I'm going for maximum DOI before applying the coating.

Have you tested this? Because it does not make intuitive sense. The paint is 50x thicker than opticoat, so if a rock has enough energy to displace that much paint the opticoat should offer little or no additional protection.

There are several threads on Autopia about this and the consensus is that it wont protect against chips.

But if you have performed some sort of test Id love to hear about it.
